Universe : Prime Timeline
Name : Robinson [1]
Species : Humans

An Earth Starfleet officer during the 22nd century, Robinson was a test pilot on the Warp 5 program. In 2143 he became the first Human being to travel at Warp 2. The ship he was flying was lost when the drive system malfunctioned as he accelerated to warp 2.2, though Robinson survived the accident. After the accident the Vulcans suggested that the engine design was flawed and should be redesigned, a process that would set the program back by decades. Robinson, Archer and Tucker realised that the flaw was in fact quite simple to correct, and in order to prove to Starfleet that the engine design was viable they stole one of the test ships and took it to stable flight at warp 2.5, a record for the time. Robinson was one of the leading candidates to become captain of the NX class, but was ultimately passed over in favour of Captain Archer. He expected to be given command of the NX-02, but in 2153 he was killed in a climbing accident on Mount McKinley. At T'Pol's suggestion Captain Archer named a dark matter nebula which he discovered shortly afterwards the Robinson nebula in honour of his friend. [1]
