Alarms sounded as Germany records nearly 1,000 new cases in a single day
Thousands gathered in Berlin on Saturday to protest coronavirus restrictions as authorities raise concerns about a rise in new infections.
The demonstration, called “The end of the pandemic – freedom day,” drew people from various parts of Germany after weeks of planning. Police used bullhorns to ask participants to adhere to safety precautions, including social distancing and wearing masks.

Two cats in Brazos County, Texas, have tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
Texas A&M University researchers said both cats were asymptomatic and lived with people who have also tested positive, according to a statement from the university.
The results suggest transmission is possible for pets in “high-risk” environments, researchers said.
Sarah Hamer said researchers are still testing additional household pets. She added that while the owners did not report any symptoms in their pets during the owners’ illnesses, one of the cats sneezed for several days after being tested.

North Paulding High School in Dallas, Georgia sent a letter to parents Saturday, saying, "At this time, we know there were six students and three staff members who were in school for at least some time last week who have since reported to us that they have tested positive." The letter was published by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Most or even all of the six students and three staff members who tested positive could have had the virus before the school reopened on Monday, August 3. As Harvard Medical School explains, "The time from exposure to symptom onset (known as the incubation period) is thought to be three to 14 days, though symptoms typically appear within four or five days after exposure," and "a person with COVID-19 may be contagious 48 to 72 hours before starting to experience symptoms."
But regardless of when those nine people were infected, their presence at a school where hallways were packed with students not wearing masks means that many other students and teachers were placed at risk of infections that could show up in test results in the near future. The high school has about 2,000 students.

The task force recommends restricting indoor dining at restaurants, now limited only by the number of diners who can be safely distanced six feet apart, to less than one-quarter of dining room capacity. Social gatherings, now capped at 50 people in Georgia, should be limited to 10 or fewer people.
Georgia also needs to ramp up testing and contact tracing statewide, the report said, and testing and infection control measures need to be expanded in nursing homes and other long-term care facilities.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution obtained the White House Coronavirus Task Force recommendations for Georgia, dated Aug. 9, from a source.
Dr. Melanie Thompson, principal investigator of the AIDS Research Consortium of Atlanta, said it is frustrating that the report is only seeing the light of day because of a leak.
“These are public health data and they should be publicly available,” she said.
Gov. Brian Kemp on Thursday withdrew his lawsuit challenging the city of Atlanta’s mask mandate and coronavirus restrictions, ending a legal feud between the Republican governor and the Democratic leader of the state’s capital city over how to contain the pandemic.
Kemp said he will instead sign an executive order Saturday that is expected to specify that local governments can’t order private businesses to require masks. It is also likely to remove a provision that explicitly outlawed cities and counties from mandating face coverings, administration officials say.

I want to propose something to everyone here. What if the Corona virus was something that actually attacks something physical. I mean something you can see. Take for example the fascia. That's the layer of tissue between your inner most part of skin and muscle.
You can get alot of issues from that and potentially the skin actually dying.
But imagine the same risks and the same percentages that we have now with the mere 'super flu'.
Honestly, if this was a more physical symptom people would take it far more serious.

The "Unite For Freedom" march started in Trafalgar Square at noon on Saturday, with demonstrators calling for 'no more lockdowns, 'no to vaccinations' and 'no to government lies'.
Pictures and video from the protest show thousands of people at the popular tourist hotspot, many holding signs and placards.
There appears to be little or no social distancing among the huge crowds and very few appear to be wearing face coverings.

Normally I could deliver some mindless pablum about, "there are always morons out there" but, this is now thousands of them clustered together, shouting about, spreading aerosol that could be infected with this current pandemic, in a major metropolitan city. Don't confront them, if they try to confront you, back down and turn the other way. If they pursue you, break out the Kirk-Fu on them. Or buy mace. They aren't wearing masks, so their nasal passages will burn and clog quick enough to collapse even the biggest, meanest, ugliest tosser.
