Apparently George Lucas made this change back in the day. Probably for the 3D version that was cancelled when production for the new movies began pre-production.
Can't wait for the next re-edit where Greedo shoots himself.

Ironically, this scene is being referred to as "Maclunkey," as that's the last word/sound Greedo says/makes.

What re-edits do you think will happen for the 50th Anniversary of Star Wars? No more blasters for Han, leading to a Han Solo fingerpoint of doom?
