crew selection, USS Ark Royal

Post by Meste17 »

So I think I have determined the best way to proceed how it was suggested for a Star Trek story, as Graham is quoted as saying this:
"What I'd really like to see? I've suggested it before. Jump ahead, show us a ship from a century after TNG. Make it a transwarp ship that can travel on an intergalactic scale. A mixed crew of Klingons, Federation, Cardassian, Romulans, even Dominion - the major powers formed an alliance. Go big or go home."
What do you think of this?

Andorian security officer
Arkenite geologist, physicist, and astronomer
Aurelian historian
Betazoid science and engineering officer. Maybe security officer
Bolian science and security officer
Bynars engineers
Bzzit Khaht medical scientist
Caitian science officer
Cardassian tactical and security officer
Catullan engineering officer
Deltan medical personnel.
Efrosian navigator or flight controller
Galifreyan tailor
Grazerites engineering, science, medical and security officer
Huanni counselor
Human commanding and/or first officer
Jem'Hadar tactical and security officer
Kaferian geneticist
Kazarite ecologist
Klingon tactical and security officer
Magna Roman tactical and security officer
Napean science and engineering officer
Osadjani science officer
Pahkwa-thanh medical and science officer
Romulan unknown as of yet
Saurian tactical and security officer
Tandaran science officer (were known for their research into time travel and temporal mechanics by the 24th century)
Tellarite engineering officer
Tiburon science officer
Trill unknown, possibly engineering officer or commanding officer
Vorta command division officer
Vulcan science officer
Xelatian tactical and security officer
Zakdorn tactical and security officer
Zaldans tactical and security officer
Zaranite weapons officer

Seems like a nice range of species.

How about a Galifreyan tailor? They generally seem to have interesting stuff in their wardrobes.

That seems like a good idea. Now the idea is the hero ship will be called the USS Ark Royal, NCC-90576. It is a Federation Vigilant class heavy cruiser, built to replace the old Excelsior and Miranda classes as according to Graham's data on them, they would be out of service by the mid 25th century at the latest (the Miranda would be retired 2405, with the Excelsior retired no later than 2446). The Ark Royal would be launched in 2407, but her most famous captain would either be Captain Samuel Timothy Burris, a human male or Captain Luvol or Natal Pelis, a Trill male. Said captain would take command in 2415 and the story on their missions would begin then.

Thank you. Now the problem is which ones to make senior staff? A Federation starship isn't just run by a crew of cadets, unless you count the original USS Enterprise from The Wrath of Khan, har har ....

No no no, Cardassians make the best tailors. Galifreyans make much better Buccaneers.

I would make them in charge of all the departments.

That's what I thought too, but there is a reason they're called senior officers. There could only be one chief of security or chief engineer.

Senior staff is for senior personnel. At least that is what happens in real life. In Navy ships department heads are usually of higher rank. Hell on aircraft carriers the 'chief engineer' is a Captain in rank.

Star Trek shows us that you can be of lower rank to be senior staff. Between Bashir to Worf and obviously Kim they are junior rank.

Species means nothing in context of what their or the overall story is.

Bingo. The meetings of the senior staff should have a very small roll.
