Silliest DITL Trek Topic Ever?

Well fellas, since its inception nearly a decade ago, I have read a lot of silly, weird, stupid, asinine, or just plain bizarre topics on the board. My question to you all:

What is the silliest Trek related topic you remember being part of here?

I remember in the early days trying to argue that Starfleet would win in a seige of Stalingrad by tunnelling under the city with phasers (sorry...) :bangwall:

Recently some of the "What if the Enterprise- G was made of transparent aluminum and shot torpedoes filled with Bat'leths?" questions have cracked me up to no end.

Does anyone else have some silly favorites?

No question whatsoever - the genetically engineered humpback whales.

The headbands that only block telepathy because people think they do.

You mean the headbands that only block telepathy because people think they do, even though they know they don't.

I only vaguely remember the details of that one... it was one of those silly Chakat things. IIRC, Chakats are telepathic, but there are headbands that block their telepathy. Only they only work because everybody believes they work, so their expectation of failing to read people with headbands prevents them from reading them.

And nobody ever twigged to this. Not once. Nobody ever had a moment when they tried to read somebody without noticing the headband, because it was under a hat or something.

:laughroll: How I miss the Chakat...

Looking back I kind of feel sorry for him. He was a teenager, obviously struggling with his sexuality and some identity issues. It's a shame he was so repeatedly obnoxious about it.

Yeah, he was defensive about his sexuality, the people with which he surrounded himself, etc. - but the only thing anybody here minded was his propensity to be a huge dick.

My favourite :

:dinokill:

It's so utterly impractical, I don't think anybody has actually used it in conversation in the history of this forum. And yet, I love it.

Headband? Someone can explain that to me? I know about the humpback whale thing though.

No. Nobody can explain it. Near as I can tell, it's sort of like a psychosomatic effect - except the effect is caused on a third party to that which perceives the placebo effect... which brings us back to the "inexplicable" bit.
