I have had chest issues for the past 6 weeks, and after three doctors and two lots of antibiotics, they have come to the conclusion that my asthma has made a comeback with a vengeance. I had it from being a youngling until my 20's, then it seemed to go away, and now it is back and kicking my ass. I get new inhalers tomorrow.

The doctor said there has been a marked increase in asthma returning after years of dormancy.

I have to see an asthma specialist next month.

At least I finally have answers though.

As you say at least you know what it is now. Possibly related to everyone being isolated during lockdown, so not exposed to the same environment we are getting used to again.

Hopefully it will settle back down again once it gets used to it again.

Yeah, definitely good to have answers, and I think you are probably right Ian. Picked up the inhalers this morning, so hopefully I'll be in some sort of working form again in no time.

I shall endure. I'm not letting any pesky health issue stop me reaching 150!

In light of the wildfires raging in Hawaii I thought to check on whether there'd been any sign of this site's erstwhile resident Hawaiian, Mark. The fact he dropped off suddenly after being for a time the most prolific poster was something to wonder about on it's own. As I see no hint of him I'll just have to wish for the best (I'm not religious so I wouldn't literally pray but you get the idea).

This past Sat, the main A/C unit in my place crapped out, leaving the house temperature to soar in the high heat of the hazy hot humid August weather. My guy went to get a new unit on Sun, no problem..in stock, but could not be delivered/installed until TODAY!! I currently have two swarthy workmen in the house, having to expand the hole in the side of the house to fit the new unit. My over-cooked brain is having trouble comprehending this nonsense, but I know at the end of it, I'll be enjoying less humid, cool air to sooth my frustration and anger of the whole event.

I am reminded of the old saying: putting a frog in a pot of water on the stove and raising the heat slowly, the frog will never realize he is being cooked alive.

I am not an amphibian and I KNOW the heat was on from the first moment of the sputtering machine death.

The ravings will cease when the purr of the pollen-free, humidity-free brrrrreeze stirs into life. And yes, the setting will be on 'arctic' until further notice.

Living in a country that has almost no A/C at all, certainly in domestic settings, it is hard to understand how bad it can get. We certainly love it when we go away to hot countries.

New York actually has a climate. I remember being in NYC on the last day of summer. Watching the TV and the news saying, it was the last day of summer and temperatures would drop tomorrow. Lo and behold it did exactly that it dropped something like 20F overnight. One day it was t-shirt weather, then next we needed light jackets. In England we don't have a climate, we have weather, it can have all of those things in a single afternoon. A single week can offer pretty much anything apart from significant extremes. We hardly ever get snow, or temperatures over 80F.

That said we are currently living in Banbury, geographically, we about as far from the coast as it is possible to be within the UK. It also sits in a dip in the topography, It all makes for a very humid place to live. Winds you get at the coast don't exist, but we also suffer frequent fog. We could certainly do with A/C here for the humidity alone.

8 hrs post installation: temps have lowered 12 degrees and humidity is down by almost 10. Not quite 'arctic' yet, but getting close.

Keep in mind that the area around NYC is pretty stable and mild compared to other parts of the country. For example maybe once a decade a hurricane though reduced will reach the city. Summers can be very hot but not sustained just as winters can be very cold but not sustained. It's not a humid climate or dry like a desert. Tornadoes are unheard of and earthquakes are practically non-existent. Go to other parts of the country and they will have extreme cold or heat. Hurricanes each year, tornadoes taking roofs off of your house, humidity that AC can barely contend with or dry heat that will kill you if you are not paying attention.

Take for example, I grew up in NJ only about a little over an hour from NYC with a house of no central AC. My parents when I was young could barely afford to pay for the house we lived in, so something like even a window unit was expensive.

Later on with both of my parents well established in their jobs and getting paid more, we eventually got window units in the bedrooms and even a second window unit for the first floor to assist the first one.

But it never solved the issue of the bathroom. Taking a dump in 100+ degrees. Couldn't even read you sweat so much.

That lone thing, sweating so much taking a dump that everywhere I lived had to have central AC.

Anyway this year has been a mild summer for NJ. Hell, we didn't even have a winter. No snow except for a dusting one morning. This summer has been very wet though. By this time the grass should be brown and crunchy but it's very green and still feels like Spring.
