Non Coalition ship

Post by Graham Kennedy »

Bit of an oddity, this. It started off as me just messign around trying to make the "panelling" effect on the main turrets. I didn't have any ship in mind, just had seen a similar effect before and wondered how easy it would be to reproduce it. I liked how they turned out, so I made a hull for them to sit on... then started making CIWS. At that point I wasn't sure if this was a Coalition universe ship or what, but it evolved into one as I went along. I love how it turned out, but whilst it uses Coalition universe-type tech (M/AM pods, passive and active sensor designs, rifters for the guns, etc), it is radically different from a Coalition design. So it's either produced by one of the member blocks of the Coalition (Human Federated Worlds, Turgran Imperium, etc), or by a non-Coalition species who is a Coalition peer. I lean towards the latter.

I love how this turned out, especially the hull. It's almost reminiscent of a rocket design. Love that nose, especially the torpedo launchers.

Tried tweaking the hull color? Or is hull material and color kinda homogenous between contemporaries?

I generally go with grey as the standard hull colour, just because that's what Navy ships are mostly painted today. As you can see, I experimented with a bit of colour on the turrets and I think it looks kind of nice. Good thing about blender is that it's really easy to change the colour of a material... how about these?

Black seems cool.

But have you tried to two tone it?

Red paneling on the sides for example and black or whatever color underneath?

That's harder to do, but I should be able to whip something up.

I like the khaki coloured one.

What's so impressive to me is these models are pretty damn close to the quality you'd get out of something in B5. That show was lightyears ahead of its time and probably cost a ridiculous fortune to make and here we are making models of extremely high quality and detail right at home.

Yeah, and quality-wise the stuff I do is nothing compared to some of the stuff out there. For instance, this is a fan made and animated ship :

If I have another few years practice... and a MUCH more powerful computer... I might be able to do something of that quality someday. Maybe.

Stripes make it go faster.
What does defeat mean to you?

Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.
