New DITL test site available

Post by IanKennedy »

OK, today we have a major change to the site, but it's one of those that won't make it look any different than it did before. The change is quite a subtle one but it makes a significant difference. The change removes the frames that have made the site work over the last 14 years. This means that each and every page has it's own URL. You can bookmark them, link to them and they will bring you right back to were you where when you did so. This change has required that each and every page on the site has be modified so old links will no longer work. Anyway give it a try and post back comments to this thread. The test is available here:

http://beta.ditl.org

Enjoy.

Please test the mobile version of this site also as it had been affected too.

Don't get me wrong, it loads plenty fast enough. I just noticed a difference in speed, but I can't really tell any difference in the look.

No problem, I was just explaining why there should be a relatively small difference in speed. Only about say 1%.

IE user are you? As far as I know It's only IE that has that problem. It's a bug that causes a framed document to have problems with downloaded fonts.

For whatever reason we must use IE for work. The software does not work with the other options. I also use IE at home as that is the only browser that I know because of work.

The only issues I'm currently aware of on this test are the following:

- Size comp does not use the whole page and sometimes displays odd scroll bars.
I'm working on this one

- The tool tip boxes you see when you point your mouse at a reference do not display in the correct place.
This is something I will correct soon.

- Opera browser users see flickering text each time the load a page.
This is due to the fact that Opera does not cache fonts it downloads for pages. This causes the font to download for each page each time, thus causing the flickering. There's nothing I can do about this, I would only suggest you get a better browser.

I tried it on my laptop, I have Chrome. I didn't notice any difference. Going to check my iphone now.

I don't notice any difference with my iPhone either. Of course I've only spent a little time on it. 8) :jester:
