In what way is Gul Dukat like (or not like) Adolf Hitler...?

Let the blogging begin.

Not even close - Dukat, concentrating in particular on the nature and motives of his actions as Prefect of Bajor, is by a very long way the more humane and likeable individual. He was also a competent military commander.

I agree. Dukat knew what he was doing. That and it seems like at least while on DS9 didn't take an activate part in every single decision in the war.

Hitler lost the war practically because he is an idiot and micromanaged everything. Also slept in every day so heaven forbid the allies did something while he was sleeping.

Dukat wasn't good at speeches.

Hitler wasn't that good either. He started out bad in his speeches but once he got the ball rolling that's when the fire happened.

We never saw any evidence of him being good or bad, although his speech to Cardassia in "By Inferno's Light" seemed to be going down reasonably well from what little we saw of it.

There was also a quite basic fundamental difference between Dukat and Hitler. Dukat's exploitation of Bajor came from a place of military expediency and unconcern - perhaps even derision - for Bajorans, but he never acted in military unsound ways merely to prosecute or satisfy any particular hatred for Bajorans.

...or satisfy some sort of cult idea he and his officers may have had.

I think SFDebris had a good explanation on how Dukat operates. I think Deepcrush had a good one too.

Yeah. So it hard to judge Dukat just based on speeches when it comes to being compared to Hitler.

I can't think of anyone off hand in the real world that is like Dukat.

Every petty third-world junta is like Dukat - not motivated against a particular group per se, but completely willing to tread on such a group in order to satisfy his own lust for power.
