Advice for whoever gets Romulans, don't get into a war with the Klingons and lose a quarter of your space.

And if anyone has questions on the SIM procedure (or annoying things like ship R&D), you can probably PM any of the current players.

Avoid the masses of alliances that seemed to form in ours. I know a player, no not me, who had five allies and none of them liked the other.

Like I said....feel free to ask their advice but I know things will be a lot different so the advice may not play out the same. With the obvious exception of 'don't loose a quarter of your space' that's bad no matter how you start playing.
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

I didn't take a quarter of his territory, I gave back a lot of what I took. I have at most a fifth of it...

Exactly, I gave back a lot of it including two of his major systems and a starbase/shipyard (what was left of it).

Thanks, now I'm trying to figure out who this was...

Best advice I can give, without getting specific, would be plan ahead. Don't wait for your ships to be way out of date to start designing new ones.

Everyone was allied with someone at some point, though that's just how politics works. Pick someone and stick with them for a time, then move on. Though its best not to piss off that person before you move on.

Maybe that was my problem, I had no real allies...

Allies are tricky as you have to find someone that can be trusted and has a similar goal in mind. The KE and UFP alliance fell because of both those issues. The KE couldn't trust the UFP anymore and the UFP's goals had changed due to their recovery from the Dominion War.

I wish I had more free time... I would love to run one of these.

I'm one of the others, as the Ferengi at least, not as the Sheliak...
