He makes a good point. The problem is that probes would have left a much better impression on the populace than the ship of the damned.

A greater impression, certainly, but I don't think it would have been a better one. Humanity's first warp-speed interstellar probe ended up trashing planet it found, as Voyager discovered.

I dunno... I think the Valakians would have rather have taken their chances with a probe.
