DW 31*07: Amy's Choice

Post by Captain Seafort »

Starts in a bit over two hours (1825 BST)

This one looks like it could be pretty good, and from the trailer I think they filmed it in the same village as "The Awakening".

Absolutely magnificent - easily the best of the series, helped by Smith putting in another Troughtonesque performance and a pure Shaun of the Dead ripoff.

I must admit, I was surprised by the Doctor's revelation of who the Dream Maker was - I was getting a distinct Toymaker or Master of the Land of Fiction vibe, although with hindsight the Valeyard (or at least a much better executed version of the Valeyard) makes sense with hindsight.

5/5, definitely. More of this please, Mr Moffat. :)

The whole thing was brilliantly done. At the start it seemed obvious which reality was the real one, since we as viewers know that they wouldn't just jump straight to a point five years in the future where Amy is pregnant. There was an excellent feel to the whole episode, and the final revelation about who the Dream Lord was was brilliant.

I really loved the villain being the Doctor's darker subconcious. While initialy it seems to be a completely different character, with hindsight it all fits brilliantly. I particularly loved the Doctor's "It's the person who hates me the most" comment.

I'm surprised that there was no crack in time sightings, though. I thought we'd at least get that as a justification of why the evil aliens were invading Virtual Reality #2.

Loved it. In retrospect, the line "Only one person in the universe hates me that much" is kinda chilling.

I also find it amusing that apparently the Doctor subconciously hates his own clothes.

Well each of his regenerations had their own style, in the 5 doctors (i think) one described Patrick Troughton (2nd Doctor) as being dressed as a buffoon.

That was Three. Those two never got on at all well. Mainly because Three was a pompous dandy and Two was a cosmic hobo and a clown. It helped that Troughton and Pertwee were good friends, and were able to play off each other well enough to really give the mutual dislike some zip. :)

Indeed. It's a great pity that they bogged up a good two-and-a-bit episode arc by following it shortly thereafter with the drek that was "Cold Blood".
