Facebook for pay?!

Post by stitch626 »

There's another rumor going around that starting in July Facebook will be sold and all users will be charged $14 a month.

Does anyone have any concrete information on this?

I haven't heard anything but I suspect it's horse manure.

Even a cursory glance at google shows this to be a rumor that's popped up before and it's consistently being denied.

I know about the previous ones, but this one has a specific date (July 6th 2010). I'm just a bit paranoid and figured I'd ask here to get some positive reenforcement.

Of course, if they did add a charge to Facebook, usage would drop.

There have been a few of these, some with a piece of code to 'sidestep the charges' but all it does is download some adware or malware.

If Facebook was going to start charging they'll announce it on their website or in a public Zuckerberg interview

It'll never happen, ever. They make infinitely more money from advertising with multi-millions of free users as an audience than they ever would with a drastically reduced paying set of members. Facebook is nice and I enjoy it but the moment I had to pay to use it, I, along with gazillions of others, would drop it like a really heavy bag of shopping where the handles are cutting into your fingers and it really hurts like. Then we'd just all go use a new, Facebook like site that IS free and then FB implodes :hot :hot :hot :hot

Aye they make money by charging advertisement space. The guy who invented FB is a billionaire.

If FB tried to charge people to use it then the majority of its users would just migrate to free competitor sites which would begin popping up quickly to take advantage of the outrage such a move would generate.

You would have gotten a message and a password change request.

Are you sure you're not the only one who was affected? Was it some sort of attempt to hack a number of peoples' accounts?

I have heard of this kind of thing many a time before, It may have been an individual attack at that moment.

According to what I read and the message from Facebbok itself, it was a mass attempt; although it was based from mobile devices in California, so the perpetrators may have had no interest in other than American accounts.
