Mobile Forum Style

Post by IanKennedy »

Well I'm a little ahead of the time line I predicted, I've now completed the initial work on the mobile version of the forum. If you point your phone/mobile device at the mobile version of the main site and click the forum link you will now see the forum in mobile mode. It's as simple as that, browse the mobile main site you see the mobile forum, browse the standard site you see the standard forum style. This is what it looks like on an iPhone in portrait mode:

Image Image Image

What works:
- The forums list
- The topics list for each forum
- The messages list for each topic
- The posting screen

What doesn't work:
Well, nothing really, but the remaining items (such as the user control panel etc) is still in the old main site style.

Let me know what you think.

I like it so far, but if I could make a request (and I'm not sure I can...) Is there a way to move the "login" button back up to the top?

Yes, that's on my list of things to do.

1) Add login button back to top of page
2) Add a copy of the navigation panel to the bottom of the page (the one that says 'Board index ‹ DITL ‹ DITL' etc) so you can navigate when you are at the bottom.
3) Better font size or entry control on the message entry form.

various other nits.

Could you make the little unread post button on the topics a little larger, as right now it's a little hard to know if I'm actually hitting them, and sometimes I hit the topic name instead which can be annoying to find the place where I left off in the topic.

You can always use the view unread posts link on the first page if you do that

Yup, I will be doing that (it's hidden in the tidying item)

OK, test version 2 of the style is now up and available. This has the following changes:

- The top of the window now has a login box if you are not logged in (there's still one at the bottom too)
- The 'New posts' image is larger and easier to hit.
- The text size for entering posts is much larger.
- Add a copy of the navigation panel has been added to to the bottom of the page (the one that says 'Board index ‹ DITL ‹ DITL' etc) so you can navigate when you are at the bottom.

Looks beautiful Ian, thanks so much, this makes it so much easier...
Also, if possible could you make the emoticons at the bottom slightly larger... :D

Oh, yes I forgot I took away the graphic that was used to apply a gradient to the top panel of the page as it seemed to be slowing down the page load. Loads faster now.
