"Dulce et decorum es pro patria mori" is a quote from Virgil's Aeneid, and translates loosely as, "It is sweet and proper to die for one's country."

"Illegitimi non carborundum" is a quote from Seafort, and means, "The bastards aren't [made] of carbon."

Illegitimi non carborundum is a mock-Latin aphorism jokingly taken to mean "don't let the bastards grind you down".

Its pig latin. You take the first letter and put it at the end of the word and add ay to it.

Wait a minute - "carborundum" is inflected like a a second-declension genitive noun... I think your translation is taking some liberties with Latin syntax.

It's fake-latin, sounds good but if you try and translate it all you'll get is nonsense - Wiki has a decent article.

So I still remembered my declensions! That's kind of funny - I have already posted in the alpha mission thread the background factoid for my character that his last post was on the USS Stilwell. Quite a co-inky-dink...
