Yeah, I would guess that it would take one of my compatriots to get that reference. Are the lighter weight classes of boxing as popular abroad as they are in the States? I know you Brits had that "Prince" Naseem Hamed a couple of years back, but he was an unmitigated a**hole, and has subsequently disappeared.

I don't really follow boxing that much, but we've got Joe Calzaghe who's super middleweight world champion, and is generally regarded as one of the best boxers in the world (pound for pound).Mikey wrote:Yeah, I would guess that it would take one of my compatriots to get that reference. Only other 'major' one we've got here is Amir Kahn, who got Olympic silver and turned professional right after. He's won most fights, but he's never fought someone on his own level [in his weight], so everyone's just waiting for a Cuban or Mexican to come along and knock his block off.

In the US, at least, most promising Olympic fighters lately don't really live up to their potential as pros.
Of course, with my wife being of Ukrainian descent, the main interest as far as boxing is the Klitschko brothers.

Yeah, it's not like boxing and a 24th century starship are that different.

You're right there. I'm still trying to figure out whether the "Sovereign" thread went more off topic than the "Picard's mistakes" thread we had.
