What if 'Turnabout Intruder' was the last ST ever?

Post by RK_Striker_JK_5 »

A thought experiment, if you will...

After 'Turnabout Intruder' airs, that's it. No novels, no movies, no new series. Syndication, yes, but there was never enough support for the revival it got.

How would ST be seen if those three seasons were it?

IMO, you've pretty much answered your own question. No movies, no novels...mediocre at best...

The only way this scenario works is if Star Trek was nowhere near as popular as it was. So it's consigned to the history books as yet another sci-fi show no one knows about.

Completely. With nothing to follow up, it would have faded out, like Buck Rodgers with a loyal (but small) fan base.

God, I miss "Space: 1999"...it came on a PBS station on Sunday afternoons, right before "Doctor Who." We're talking mid 70's, here... There were a few Pocket Books that came out during the series, but it suffered a similar fate to the situation we're discussing...

The funny thing is, they might still have made a movie out of it eventually. Given that we've had Starsky and Hutch, Charlie's Angels, Lost in Space, The Avengers... sooner or later, they may have done it anyway!

If not, well a lot of sci fi went down the drain of history. Earth 2, War of the Worlds, The Flash... bye bye, Star Trek.

Lord, can you imagine the cheesy script and actors we would have gotten if THAT had happened?

Agreed.

I miss Space 1999 and sadly didn't get to watch much after the first season, but do any of you old farts remember UFO?

Graham wrote a whole dissertation on UFO in the "Other Sci-Fi" forum. I never saw it, but I'm interested based on his commentary.

And I liked Space: 1999 also. I wonder what ever happened to my toy Eagle?

I'm going to go in the opposite direction and say it would be even more popular then it was in Trek's heyday (TNG). Think about it, TNG came about because of the Trek drought, fans screaming for new Trek after nothing for a decade+.

The bonus? VOY, ENT, TFF, INS, NEM and GEN never get made.

The bad? No TMP, TWOK, TSFS, TVH, STVI, TNG or DS9.
