Shattered Looking glass

Post by Granitehewer »

Supposing that the terran empire in the TOS: movie era, started to reform and pacify due to the input of spock and others, and various subject races and vassals begin to gain influence or secede from the empire, possibly with ideological and material assistance from the klingons, and thus the balance of power started to shift............could a threatened and ressurgent terran empire seek an understanding with the romulans to pen in and deter the klingons perhaps via treaties?
Or do we see the TOS era romulans as favouring the klingons or being isolationist and hoping that the other powers will finish off each other, or at least not be an impediment to romulan expansion??

I think a Terran Empire that was so weakened would look more like an appetizer to the Romulans than a possible ally.

I'd see the Romulans just sitting back and watching the show.

Agreed, if this were the regular universe. I hate the whole "not enough information to decide" bit, but I'd say any speculation would be as good of a guess as any as we don't know the status of the Romulan empire before hand. If the Terrans managed to conquer Vulcan, Tellar, and others that we saw in ENT, it's just as possible that there's been some sort of aggression towards the Romulans as well. Notice how we DON'T see them at all in the DS9 mirror universe? This could suggest that the Romulans had already been taken out as a serious power.

It would surprise me if there wasn't a conflict between the two. The Romulans were probably defeated in war by the Terrans at some point.

sisko referred to bringing the romulans into the war, this as many sites agree, does imply that the romulans were a major power....

France is considered a first-world power, but few would argue that they have the same clout as the UK or the USA.

Since our universes Feds beat the Romulans in the original reality, does that mean they might have lost the war in the mirror one? I dont see how since if anything they are more powerful.

Maybe they are just more suseptable to Romulan espionage.
What does defeat mean to you?

Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

I could have sworn someone mentioned the Romulans in one of the DS9 mirror episodes, but I really don't remember.

That wouldn't make much sense since the TE continued to grow. The RSE would have crushed the TE at its birth if it had been able. Just like they tried to against Earth in the Standard Timeline.
