DITL Species 10- Empire Size
DITL Species 10- Empire Size
Week One we decided it is a Fungal creature
Week Two we decided that it would live off decay and consumption
Week Three we decided it would use ganglion- brains spread throughout its body in clusters.
Week Four we decided it would use spores in an asexual form of reproduction.
Week Five we decided that the creature was 'type D' meaning long lived but had very few offspring.
Week Six we decided that the species would live in large hives.
Week Seven we decided that the species natural habitat would be a primordial tropical swamp... leaning towards swamp.
Week Eight we decided that the species would have dominant traits of an expansive and industrious nation. But the nation is also protective- but not overly so, and slightly Imperialistic in its foreign policy and operations.
Week Nine we decided that the species would have a tech level on par with the Cardasians.
Now we decide on what kind of a player they will be in galactic politics. Remember week eight's choices of an expansive and industrial nation with elements of protectiveness and imperialistic policies.
One World to a Few System power
Member of the United Federation of Planets
Member of a 'unispecies' Empire like the Klingons or Romulans
Small AQ/BQ power similar in size and scope to the Tholians or Gorn
Medium like Cardasians and the Ferengi, and perhaps Rochey's bug race
Large AQ/BQ power such as the Federation, the Klingons, Romulans
Massive Galactic Power such as the Dominion or Borg.
Gigantic Super Power from another Galaxy. Controlling that Galaxy.
Horrifically Large Empire controlling multiple Galaxies or a universe.

Re: DITL Species 10- Empire Size
I went with Cardassian size, as empire size, to me, is often a function of communications ability. The better your communications (faster, more detailed, etc) the farther your empire can act as a single entity. Once you start getting beyond that range, you have to delegate more and more to subsidiaries, effectively becoming a Feudal type of government at the top.
Since they had Cardassian level technology, it seemed appropriate for them to have a Cardassian sized empire.

I'm going with Tholian size, big enough to be a player but still stay in the established universe with out straining credability.
The really big options make them harder to fit into established canon.

What does defeat mean to you?
Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

Re: DITL Species 10- Empire Size
Around UFP sized. It'd be interesting to see how a race with Cardie level tech does with a large industrial base at their disposal.
Though they actualy controled more territory than the UFP [/nitpick].
Wow, someone remembered them.and perhaps Rochey's bug race

UFP size. Just like Rochey said, it would be great to watch a race with the UFPs size and CU tech and IQ.

Tholian/Gorn size. Like with their tech level, I think it would be more interesting to have them be somewhat impactful, but still hungry.

Re: DITL Species 10- Empire Size
A lot of people are voting for a CU sized empire. So I guess we're going to have our own CU...?
Very lame.

Dang. I was hoping for something in between Cardassian and Klingon size.

I think that would be the Romulans.

Exactly what I was thinking. If they're off on the far side of the Alpha Quadrant, they'd just be making contact with the Federation; maybe their recent expansion was due to the sudden disappearance of their primary rivals: the Husnock.Deepcrush wrote:I think that would be the Romulans.

OH, I like that! I like that alot. They could start with the territory of the CU but now have plenty of room to expand and grow and build. Which is perfect for their traits.
