Ensign Nickswitz locked gazes with Chief Petty Officer Rochey as the latter depressed his phasers trigger. A beam of scarlet energy struck the young officer directly in the heart, blasting him clean off of his feet to the deck. Everyone gathered around, waiting for Nick to disolve into the gooey mass that Founders become in death. Instead, all they saw was Nick's blank stare from his dead eyes, and the smoking hole in his chest.

The survivors gathered around Nick's sightless body, looking on in shock.
"My God," Rochey said "What the hell have I done?"
Shaking his head in regret, Tsuki replied "Exactly what we all thought should be done. Not that THAT makes it right, though."
Stitch sat down heavily on the floor and said, "In the space of two days, I'm an only child. What am I going to tell mom and dad?" Looking accusingly at Rochey, Lazar, and Tsuki he said, "Hey, FOUNDER!!! Do me a favor, will ya? Make it me tonight."
Looking down at Stitch, Lazar said "Oh come on. As we run out of survivors, the Founder runs out of hiding places. I'm CONFIDENT that we'll get him tonight."
Stitch looked at Lazar and broke into racking sobs. The sound of his crying covered the silent hiss of the hypo spray

In a silent compartment, the medic's tricorder flashed the results on the screen. Taking a deep breath, he planned his next move.

Again, the security specialist lay awake, guarding against the expected attack.

Master Chief Tsuki cursed again as he scraped even more skin off of his knuckles. Keeping this antique capable of keeping them all alive had moved way past a full time job. It had become a cause. With as much time as he was spending down here he became very familiar with the smells of this engine room, so when he smelled coolant, he knew they were in big trouble. Racing down the corridor, the Master Chief came face to face with what had to be the Founder, attempting to overload the engine core.
"Are you insane!" he screamed "That'll kill everybody!"
"That is the plan, solid." It replied, as it began to form a blade with its hand.
Master Chief Tsuki knew in that instant that he was dead. It was simply a matter of how at this point. Spinning, he turned his back on the Changeling, and quickly locked down the engine panel, deactivating and preventing a future attempt to blow this bucket of bolts. Luckily a ship this old wasn't as easy to destroy as a modern one, so the crusty old Master Chief knew that he had bought at least one more day of safety for his shipmates as he felt the bite of steel pierce his back. He screamed out in both pain and warning, for the Founder was still trying to kill them all.
