Grand Nagus Tain

Post by Granitehewer »

The cardassian union as described by Gul Madred and others, seem to be lacking in resources, or resources which can be conveniently accessed at least.

One of their neighbours is the ferengi alliance, a seemingly oppulent people with mercentile acumen, influence of minor race, and quite adept at acquiring technologies and information from a plethora of sources.

Asides from the cardassian union living in a pond of predators, such as klingons , breen etc, do we think that militarily and in conjunction with the activities of the obsidian order that the cardassians could conquer and annex the ferengi alliance?

Would the ferengi fiercely resist rather than capitulate, do we think that the ferengi fleet is sufficient for the job, or would it be a case of relying on appeals to other races and reliance of klingon, breen and nausican mercenaries? ('the magnificent ferengi' mentions those merc groups).

I wouldn't doubt that the CU could defeat the FA. The Problem being is that the FA seems to have some fair sized ships that even gave the GCS pause. The CU is more likely too go after soft targets. Plus the FA are the black market of the AQ.

Marauders don't just give the GCS pause - they're strong enough to inflict serious damage with a single volley. We've never seen them go on any longer, and the fact that they're predominantly cargo ships suggests that they aren't particularly suited to combat, but their weapons are definately more powerful than those of the Cardies.

A war would boil down to whether Ferengi defences and starship design are tough enough to match their alpha-strike, and whether they have enough ships to turn their tactical advantage into a strategic one.

I think you just got it.

A war between the CU and FA would just be costly and really wouldn't bring much gain.

i remember about nog mentioning the 'three hundred marauders' in ''little green men'' and thought if he's actually being reasonable, then the ferengi potentially have a decent all be it chronically scattered fleet

Pathetic, unscrupulous, despised, and yet, you can't do without them. I think AIG fits better, but the Swiss work as well.

woohoo learnt quite a bit today, especially that people with tag heuer watches get offended when you refer to the watch as 'tag fuhrer' and now this AIG thing
