Kalastra class dreadnaught

The Kalastra class was built to replace the age old Hindura class as the biggest and most destructive ship of the Danarian fleet. The Hindura, at the time of the Kalastra's design, had served the Danarian fleet very well, having been a staple warship for some 200 years in its many refitted forms. Obviously, due to the age, the hulls of the Hindura's were beginning to suffer irreplaceable decay, eventually resulting in a catastrophic depressurization of the DFS Soranam, one of the 3 last batch Hindura class ships. A new design was needed, and it was needed fast.

The Kalastra integrated many new design philosophies and technologies that were missing from the older Hindura class, most notably a completely new suite of weapons systems. The Hindura class had been armed with a curious mixture of the early plasma cannons, and mass driver weaponry, making it a complex mish-mash of very different weapons. The Kalastra has a full suite of heavy 10" Plasma Pulse Cannons (PPC) mounted in dual turrets to accompany the main guns mounted on the bow. The main guns, are a pair of High power 17" Particle Stream cannons, each capable of much higher firepower than any plasma or mass driver weapon is. Particle cannons are inherently more powerful than plasma weapons, as they affect all shield and hull types in much the same way because of their mixed particle output. backing up these armaments, and supporting against fighters, is the armament of 22 twin point defense plasma cannons. That makes a total of 44 point defense cannons, an unparalleled armament in that area. This thing is almost impervious to fighters, unless a bomber can get through to target her weaponry.

Within 5 years, all of the aged Hindura class ships had been replaced with the Kalastra class dreadnaught, and the class is still in service today, some 20 years later.
