Ah, the good old days, when Steve Martin was funny.
Captain Navin R. Johnson of the USS Optigrab?

Going back to the "America-centric" thoughts, TOS brought us "U.S.S." I know it probably stands for United Space Ship or United Star Ship (canon?) but it undoubtedly comes from United States Ship...

Would H.M.S. stand for Highly Manuverable Ship in Trek?
Well that is obvious.

United federation of Planets Starship Enterprise is mouthful. Or even Starfleet Ship isn't that good.

I think I heard somewhere that it was originally supposed to be "United Space Ship", not in the sense of "spaceship", but in the sense that there was some organization called "United Space", sort of like the United Nations. That was before they settled on the UFP.

TOS was definitely America-centric. Hell, the whole Klingon/UFP thing was a direct parallel of the Cold War, with the UFP as the USA.

Later on, in TNG, DS9 and VOY they dropped the America-centric angle, as Roddenberry wanted it to be one big happy planet.

Then came Enterprise and reminded us that the future belongs solely to the white anglo-saxon males.

Yeah but we only let him drive. Only the white boys get to command, work on the engine, and fire the guns.

Why else would the working title have been "Driving Miss Archer?"

I like that movie. If only because it has Morgan Freeman in it, therefore how can you not like it?

I think Phlox put it best in Two Days and Two Nights:

T'Pol: Ensign Mayweather is sick.

Phlox: Who?

I loved that line. When he said that I started to die laughing and my wife wanted to know what was so funny.

I really liked the musical theme - until they changed, mishandled, RAPED it from season 3 onwards! It then became simply unbearable!

The visuals were always nice though!
