Matsuda Corperation Ships and equipment

Post by Reliant121 »

Matsuda Corporation

The Matsuda Corporation is a company based in Hizurya, Nippon. The company constructs a variety of ships and equipment for the corporate market, some low end patrol craft right up to high level assault dreadnoughts and battleships; equipment starting from basic weaponry and sensor equipment, to high level security systems. Matsuda's Net worth is roughly 228,000,000 MAAS. The main naval shipyards are based just outside Hizurya, at Aoguro. Its stellar shipyards are based in orbit of Neptune Massif, a asteroid in orbit of New Jupiter (same location as old Jupiter). The company currently sponsors 15 planets, and has 24 out of Terra laboratories based on 6 worlds.

Writer note: this thread will detail everything and anything to do with the Matsuda Corperation, if and when i decide to post it. As Corporations play a huge part in Ariel, each major corperation will get its own thread where designs and equipments, as well as price lists will be posted.

Shokohama Light Cruiser

Image

The Shokohama class cruiser is based upon the Early 20th century designs of the Kuma and the Sendai class light cruisers, operated by the Imperial Japanese navy before and during the war. Their primary designed role is to lead packs of destroyers or support major offensives. She carries 150 mm plasma stream cannon for its primary armament and 7 120 mm dual purpose plasma cannons for standard weaponry. 4 twin torpedo launchers provide anti-submarine firepower, and the 7 triple barrel sequential-stream AA/Point defense cannons are there to insure the protection of the ship. All guns are either Radar guided or have a radar assisted targeting computer to assist gunners. Her 6 small fusion generators provide power for the twin shafted water jet engines, capable of propelling her at speeds of 48 knots, although this form of speed is rarely exercised unless in a true emergency.

Sorry. SS used to be the prefix for steamships, although it sort of remianed in vogue for some diesel liners too.

Aye, it put me in mind of the old steamships when I first saw it, too.

I'm no expert in Japanese martial shipping, but the right angle and low gunwale of the prow reminded me of the early steam clipper or packet analogs.

Oh right, indeed the Senpai and Kuma were powered by 10 and 12 Kampon steam boilers respectively. Each funnel has 1 1/2 Fusion reactor two it (not arranged perfectly but thats the equivalent.

There you go. What purpose do the funnels serve in your design?

Fusion reactors innately create a high level of heat and need to be cooled. Standard coolant systems channel secured pips of cooled water through the reaction chamber, to keep it stable. Often, by the time water has reached the end of this tube, it has evaporated into steam which is vented via the funnels. There are normally about 8 coolant tubes per reactor. The funnels also serve as a means to expel unclean or unfiltered air from the interior.

Civilian warships tend to use more of a smaller type of generator because they are both cheaper and more flexible than a single high power reactor. Should one deactivate the others are still in opration. Military grade reactors normally have separated compartments, almost like several fusion generators strapped together to make the main one.

I forgot to mention.

The weapons fit that this particular Shokohama carries is merely a weapons package that is sold extra to the ship itself by Matsuda. You can fit almost anything you want, provided the hull can take it. What often happens is that the Company the vessel is brought from will offer a deal to fit a weapons package as well as the actual purchase.

And an explanation of the Sequential-fire stream cannons: These are multiple barrel (3 or above) cannons that fire a stunted beam of energy. Each barrel is fired one after the other in a 1-2-3 1-2-3 pattern or some such, taking one second to make a single 1-2-3 firing in the case of those fitted above. They provide superior power to other types of weapons, but are weaker in that they are slower firing.

So the weapons don't come as standard?

Civilian ships rarely come with weapons on board, as many prefer to customize their own armament. With a vessel say as large as a battleship, not many can afford the weapons package that comes with it, and have to go for a lesser form. Companies do several packages which is a complete set of weapons, but alot of people mix and match single turrets here or there.
