Captain Seafort wrote:"Latinum" and "gold-pressed latinum" seem to be frequently used interchangeably. The fact of latinum's liquid state suggests that this is merely verbal shorthand rather than a literal statement.
Agreed. The short form is a common vernacular practice, and the seeming relative valuelessness of the gold itself seems to indicate this as well.

I can accept that
They say that in the Army,
the women are mighty fine.
They look like Phyllis Diller,
and walk like Frankenstein.

So in responce to the original question, making a statue out of it would be rather hard.
What does defeat mean to you?

Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

Yeah, but isn't gold pretty soft for a metal? That would mean that hitting it hard enough could cause the latinum to liquidise again.

Possibly, but the solution would be to simply cast the statue rather than trying to work it.

and the seeming relative valuelessness of the gold
Wait a minute... in The Last Outpost, the Ferengi wanted the combadges because they were gold. Doesn't that contradict the later attitude Quark takes of gold being worthless?

Did he actually want it because it was gold? I just thought he was pointing out the fact that it is rather bling to cover yourself with it.

Hmm, can't remember the specifics, I'd have to watch the ep. But you might be right.

He was, but the reason he was complaining was because gold was a rare (and therefore valuable) metal.
