Interesting idea...
Interesting idea...
I've always wanted to do a roleplay where we would roleplay out events on a forum and then whenever the battle began we would move to the computer world and fight it out and the roleplay would shift to whatever the result of that battle was.
I always wanted to do a Total War game, I have Rome Total War and can get Medieval Total War sometime. But those things are kind of complicated to organize being massive armies and what not. Starcraft would be fun too but the Universe is not that expansive. So I was thinking maybe if I post here and see if there would be enough people interested in a Warhammer 40k Roleplay where battles would be on the computer game of Warhammer 40k.
The only rule would be we'd all have to be Imperium which means Imperial Guard or Space Marines all around. That way we'd abe on the same side.
So don't make an RP forum based on this idea yet, I'm just currious to see if its a good one first

How many Minbari does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
None. They always surrender right before they finish the job and never tell you why.

Re: Interesting idea...
Which game of 40K? There's loads from The Battle For Armegeddon to Space Hulk. I assume you mean Dawn Of War there, but, again.. which one? There are 4 expansions, after all, and theres a second game with a new engine and a different mechanic thats closer to the actual 40k (ie, minimal base building) just been announced.Monroe wrote:So I was thinking maybe if I post here and see if there would be enough people interested in a Warhammer 40k Roleplay where battles would be on the computer game of Warhammer 40k.

Would work.
If people don't have the right games you could also use VASSAL (see new thread on this board).
Actually we could in principle put it all together (the VASSAL stuff, RP, and the Trek/40K conversion stuff). Many Trek away missions are basically kill team scenarios (special 40K rules for a small group of people trying to infiltrate and blow something up or rescue someone or something like that.)

I would mean Dawn of War- all of it based on who we're fighting (which would mean I'd have to get the last two expansions).Jabber Swarky wrote:Which game of 40K? Warhammer 40k just seems to have the most fans on this board but hell even Homeworld would work I wouldn't mind long asthe game was fun.

Re: Interesting idea...
Sounds cool, but I'd still have to go buy Dawn of War...
Alternatively, what about a small-scale game which leads to RP, like Inquisitor? The rules are available as a free PDF from GW, and it has a customizable character creation ability, based on the players' consensus for build points.

I think the smaller scale lends itself to this format; plus, it's expected that there would be a group of players all on the same side.

Re: Interesting idea...
I was kind of hoping to go for a common computer game so minimum effort on our part.

I'll put up a poll with different games.

Sounds like a good idea to me.
