As confirmed in an interview with Stewart and show producer Akiva Goldsman conducted by SFX Magazine, Stewart will retire the character once the third season wraps. Indeed, Goldsman and Stewart said that "Picard" was never meant to run indefinitely, and there were no long-term plans to keep the series around for upwards of seven seasons (the running time of "Star Trek: The Next Generation," "Deep Space Nine," and "Voyager"). Three seasons was always the plan.

Even though they gave Picard a gollum body, Patrick is aging quite quickly these days. Best wrap up the series nicely and get it in the can.

Seems that season 3 will see the entire main cast of STNG guesting on the show, according to a recent articles. Big send off moment for Jean Luc I"m thinking, ala STII Spock funeral...just a guess.

Though season 2 is okay, I really think it should have ended with season 1 with Picard dying. It was a poetic ending to his story. Sometimes you've got to let your heroes lie still. Instead of Picard Season 2, we could have gotten Seven Season 1 or something.
