White Squadron beginnings

Okay so the official name of the Squadron. The problem is when does the Squadron form?
We have no idea the history of the squadron. What vehicles it uses. Who is the leader. Would it be based after or before the Battle of Yavin. How it was formed. Etc.
Do they fly X Wings? A Wings? B Wings? E Wings? Y Wings. Or maybe something older? Or something newer? Maybe they fly prototype fighters or bombers? Hell are they captured Tie Fighters painted white?
Any of these would date the squadron.
