LOL, this is why we're contacted by the Star League-to form the backbone of their Strafighter Corps. 8)

Hey, fighter pilots need to be anal, ego driven, no holds bared psychos, who better then humans who still honestly believe that the galaxy revolves around them so much that an interstellar star league would come to them because of all their worlds they can't find pilots!

Yeah. Out of all the worlds of the Star League, and they only had that small room of gunners for their Gunstars?

The point of the fighters were they were very hard to use. Thats what made them so good. They were just that much more advanced then anything the Star League's enemies could produce.

In retrospect.....it seems that the Star Leauge's tech sort of froze, didn't it?

Star Wars, before the YV invasion and the EU just got stupid.

I've always thought that a Gaunt's Ghosts style series of Star Wars books would be brilliant. Forget the big movie stars, tell us the story of a force of Rebel troops around the time when the Empire starts to collapse. The X-Wing series took a step in that direction by only including main characters peripheraly.

SW is an incredibly vast universe. Stop telling us about the ongoing adventures of the same half dozen people and start exploring the edges.

Interesting, but 40k has always been different in intention than 'Wars. 40k is, by nature, a setting and background first and foremost... initially for the tabletop game, of course, but that idea pervades the fiction as well. 'Wars, OTOH, was born to be a space opera - a swashbuckling adventure - and as such necessarily puts characters ahead of background.

Yes but at this point we've had hours of movies and tens of thousands of pages of writing just on the same tiny group of characters. We're long past saturation. Even if it is space opera at some point you've gotta admit that your first horses have run their course and its time to move on.

Those horse have indeed become tired - the difference is that I don't believe that the milieu goes on effectively without them. That's like asking Edgar Rice Burroughs to write Mars stories without John Carpenter.

I disagree. I loved the X-Wing series. I really enjoyed the Tales from Jabba's Palace and Cantina. I think Star Wars as a universe is entirely doable and people will read it.

They definitely needed a wakeup call, and got it in the form of Xur. And although it froze, it's still more advanced than the enemy. The Gunstar was seriously badass.

The movies? I agree. The books? I don't see why they need to follow the same format.

But how much longer before it gets frickin' ridiculous? Han is in his sixties-ish NOW. Luke and Leia several years behind and both Force users....but age still catches up with you. Obi Wan sure slowed down a bit. The Falcon must about be ready to be condemned with its hull age and stress.

It already has gotten frickin' ridiculous with SW and the Big three. Interesting characters die/are devalued left and right while they keep plodding along.
