Alright....Mark (it was Mark yes?) is now to be known as Pandora, and TR-116 is a box. (Get it?)

Most of the stories involving them are very boring Ultramarines Omnibus I'm looking at you. But if the plot is well handled ala the Cain novels or the first short story in The Last Chancers, they can be exciting. They work best if it's Genestealer infestation rather than OMG! RAVENOUS BEASTS FROM SPACE!!!!!

Yeah, they were just horrible cliched caricatures in Warrior Brood.

I have no clue what you guys are talking about. This must be what other people feel like when I start getting on about Star Trek.

Novel writers in Warhammer 40k
A correction. Fanfic is non-canon, the works of these writers are.

And yes, CS Goto is pretty crap. Avoid his Dawn of War books like the fracking plague.
I wouldn't go as far as to call him a Travis-style character, though. He hasn't threatened to rip his critics' throats out, for one.

I don't think there's a specific heirarchy of canon in 40K.
The Lexicanum has a list of the different admissable sources. In no particular order:

Rulebook
Codex
White Dwarf Magazine
Novels
GW Website
Comics and graphic novels
Computer and collectible card games

:worried: WHAT HAVE I DONE???!!!!! :worried:

I fear Captain Planet may not be enough to save us by himself, therefore....

:::draws sword from back scabbard and holds it aloft:::
"By the Power of Greyskull!"
:::surrounded by lighting bolts and becomes muscular (no working out required):::
:::hold hilt in one hand and blade tip in the other:::
"I have the Power!!!"

No chance Reliant and Blackstar will get that one

There are statements floating around from GW that go along the lines of "the novels are how things actually are". I have to go find them.
