I thought maybe after the Blackstar fiasco, Ian added a "bump off" button.

How about a "kick selected poster in the arse" button?

The concept for stationary deep space defense outposts dates back to the 23rd century, when old Alamo class defense outposts were deployed along hostile fronts, such as the Klingon and Romulan Neutral Zones. However, when the last major breakthrough in Warp Theory resulted in the restructuing of the Warp scale, it was thought that stationary defense outposts were antiques and no longer needed, as Starship response time would be dramatically increased to allow Starfleet to respnond to any deep space incursions, and Starbases and other facilities could defend inhabited systems. However, having been involved in conflict after conflict in the 24th century, Starfleet re-evaluated it's decision. The Sentinel class was based off of the design of Starbase 173, and LOOKS like a half sized model. It's only mission, however, is detecting an enemy incursion, and if nessessary, repelling an attack. Captain Jean-Luc Picard successfully employed the tachyon net against the Romulans and thus provided the basis for the Sentinel detection grid. The outposts are linked with various HIGHLY Classified methods, and any vessel or object breaking that network will immedietly be detected, with their exact coordinantes relayed to the main fleet. As being posted alone near a hostile border with help sometimes days away the defensive abilites were given priority and significantly upgraded, to allow them to hold off all but the most powerful of ships, or even small tast forces.

Very cool, except that's "Sentinel", and you don't have a length listed, or torpedo compliment.

Fixed, mostly

I'm a bit unsure of the length. Thoughts?

Well, now that I'm looking, that doesn't seem to be a valid nit; GK doesn't have a length listed either. I guess we can assume that diameter refers to length and width.

I've often wondered why Starfleet stopped using these. E-E wouldn't have needed to patrol the Romulan Neutral Zone, if these puppies were in place.

Manpower shortage? They could've at least used some advanced automated defense grids.

I think it's a bit undermanned.

I developed an equation where you plug in the deminsions of a ship and it'll give you the crew total, enlisted, and officers based off numbers I gathered from DITL and other similar sites. It's all pretty complex (for mark anyway :P ) but by my calculation the station should have around 120,000 - 160,000 crew.

I also think your shield stregnth may be a bit low, but sheild stregnth estimation is my weak point, so don't take my word for it, but it has shields about the same stregnth as the Galaxy, but it's what 5-6x bigger...

critizisim aside, I like it. seems well armed for an outpost station. and the rest of the numbers seem very lagitamate.

any chance of a pic?

It's essentially a halfed sized version of Starbase 173, so if you look up that Starbase on the main forum, you'll have a general idea. You may be right about the it being undermanned, but I was theorizing, Starfleet wouldn't want to assign TOO many people to a station where most likely nothing is going to happen, but if it does, it's ready. Granted, it's big and there is alot of space, but it's still able to function as a mini-starbase, with some of the smaller ships actually able to fit inside it's hanger. You MAY be right off the shields. I based my guesstimations off of GKs numbers from the main site. Maybe I WILL play with the shield numbers a bit. What do you guys think? Any other thoughts?
