Agreed. The same thing (IMO) for series and animes.

Now if I like something, I will then go to that other material.

I agree. There are times when films are built on an established tale, and it has to be done really very well to encapsulate it properly. But if the film is an original (in the context of the lore) then it has to be damn good for me to even bother looking elsewhere.

This is why I like SW films. And not the fluff around it.
