Anyways, Joss Whedon is directing The Avengers, so I have supreme confidence in it's potential. I loved Firefly, and Buffy/Angel.

Yeah, the Marvel character was pretty much the Norse god, in an anachronistic manner.

He's one of those characters who's fairly big in the comics, but has never had much publicity outside the comic book fandom.

In a nutshell - he's not a character based on Thor, or similar to Thor. It's Thor, complete with Loki as arch-nemesis, Mjollnir, and all.
