Drama, can't have space battles with the Cardies without drama. Draws chicks to the show.
Better having Jellico nuke the Cardassian fleet than the OMGteh'drama!!1!1! At the very least, pretty explosion! :takecover: :laughroll:

Yeah, I would have like to have seen a few of the mines that Riker deployed detonate. It would be reminiscent of the old submarine movies.

Considering that Worf's chances for higher command were killed because he opted to save his wife's life rather then finish the mission, Riker should have had similar repercussions or cashiered.
Perhaps he did have similar repercussions. There was no talk about him being offered a command again until 2379 when he took command of the Titan, ten years after the events in Chain of Command.

Fair point there. Maybe his chances of becomming a captain were deliberately crushed for that incident. It wouldn't have been too much of a punishment for Riker, given that he had no interest in command for a long time, but Jellico wouldn't have known that.

Riker didn't refuse any order to go on the mission, he was relieved by Captain Jellico - he probably shouldn't have gone as far as he should have with Captain Jellico, but I don't think it's anything close to what Worf did.

What should have hurt his career more in my opinion is his part in the mutiny aboard The Pegasus. He may have been young at the time, but he had plenty of time afterwards to come forward afterwards.

Actually, he wasn't part of the mutiny............just the cover up.

Fair point - upto that point I guess he was only obeying orders. It was only during the courtmartial where he went astray.

How much will "I was only obeying orders" let you get away with? Maybe a discussion for another thread, but would the bridge crew of the Phoenix have been punsihed for following Captain Maxwell so blindly?

Worf muttering. "Like it'd really matter? We're gonna blow them all up anyway..."

Jellico. "What was that?"

Worf. "Nothing nothing!
