Actually, it's very subtly done most of the time, but the main viewscreen on the E-D is holographic and frequently shows 3D images. There are scenes which highlight it, just don't ask me to name one.

Now and again you get the normal straight on view of a person's face on the screen, then it would cut to a shot from the side of the bridge and we'd see the person on the screen, but shot from a side angle. I remember thinking that it was cool the first time I noticed it. :)

Well, the next generation of ships may not even need a "viewscreen". If Trek were to decide it wanted to make sense, they'd have a mini holodeck or an emitter instead.

I'd like to think that the E-E's screen was a step in that direction. IIRC, it was a solid panel, not a screen, which projected an image on demand.

Aye, the E-E's wasn't too bad.
Now if only they'd fix the location of the bridge we'd be making progress.

Obviously. I just want to know what the hell the design team was smoking when they came up with that feature.

"Hey man, shouldn't the bridge be like, on the top of the ship so they can see out?"

"Yeah man, that makes sense!"
