Well, we don't know that the Rhode Island-type was built to fulfill the same role as a Defiant, but yes - that's what I was getting at: by the time you completely gut and overhaul the ship to jam all the new stuff in, it's not much more resource-intensive to start from the keel up.

I agree the Defiant is likely more combat oriented, they should have given him a Nebula, it can handle that 2 year Deep Space mission he was on and it is ALOT easier to accept it taking on the Negh'Vars that that little Science Ship.

I think they used that spaceframe specifcally to convey a large degree of advancement and by extrapolation a gulf of time.

They did a poor job of it though, that's way too much advancement IMO.

I think its good idea to take Endgame with a grain (ton) of salt.

Actually, even a Nebula would have been hard for me to except. It should have been a Prommie.

Yeah but the Prometheus likely wasn't set up for a 2 year deep space mission, Kim was an Ops Officer, I suspect it was the routine charting/discovery mission, if so the Prommie isn't you ship, you want a Neb or a Galaxy type deal.

Maybe, but only two years doesn't seem unreasonable for a prommie. I could be biased though

I think a Prommie would have been fine. Being the fastest ship in the fleet means that she'd be perfect for charting missions. Get the job done with a hell of a lot faster then a Nova (or against a fucking Neghvar might as well have been a sail boat).

I just said it seemed to me that that was the idea - I agree that it was done clumsily.

Agreed, although misuse of ship types has been a hallmark of Starfleet for years.

Exactly. I don't think I need to bring up the GCS's constant contradictory missions.
