"Loo-ten-ent Grr'lek, to the security office," came the page. Puzzled, Grr'lek made his way the security department to find Subcommander N'yatra with a fierce expression, flanked by a pair of security officers. "Be seated," she said, indicating a chair opposite a desk, with no trace of cordiality.

Grr'lek sighed and sat as the subcommander took a seat behind the desk. "I must congratulate you," he said evenly. "Your witch-hunt began extremely quickly."

"I really didn't have to do much hunting. Subtlety isn't the Federation's forte, is it? There's only one outworlder aboard, and he happens to have starship operations experience."

"Subtlety may not be our forte, but common sense does not appear to be yours. First, what would we have to gain by sabotaging a Romulan ship on a cooperative mission, isolated in the Gamma Quadrant?"

"I don't pretend to understand your motives," N'yatra replied, narrowing her eyes. "Go on."

"Second, this was a distraction, not an attack. Think about it."

"Explain."

Grr'lek spoke slowly and carefully, as if instructing a slow child. "The damage done was limited to a single auxiliary craft. That wouldn't exactly cripple this ship. I'd monitor what's going on on board very closely if I were you."

"Confine him," N'yatra said to one of the guards, and then turned to Grr'lek. "I'm going to look into what you say."

"I'll be here when you want to thank me," Grr'lek said as the force field of the holding cell materialized in front of him.

********************

The Tigerfish dropped out of warp and, apparently, into hell. The Pegasus was emerging from the nebula, heavily damaged and leaking plasma from a number of rents in the hull. "Sternson - situation report!" Mikey bellowed. "Friedman - get me the status of the Pegasus. Renwick - take the helm; Schroding, you have tac and phasers... I'll handle the torps." He began to configure an auxiliary console as the crew scrambled to their stations.

"Two shuttles in evasive patterns, three Jem'hadar attack craft engaged with the Pegasus, one damaged. There appears to be one more in the apron of the nebula," Sternson reported.

"The Pegasus can't take much more," added Friedman. "She's readying lifeboats."

Mikey's antennae bent forward. "Helm - circular course toward the contact in the nebula. Phasers at will as we pass. Amy, rig up a way to detect displacement in the nebula and tie it to fire control at my station. And somebody please find those damned Klingons and tell them to get their ridged asses back here!"

As the Tigerfish swung wide around the Pegasus and the three attack ships her phaser cannons laced pulses into the Jem'hadar craft on the near side, knocking off a nacelle and sending it careening off course, and then a few shots into the already-damaged rearward attack ship, disabling its power systems. "Mods complete," Sternson said as they completed their run. Mikey targeted the hidden Jem'hadar ship's movement and fired two torpedoes. Two explosions rumbled through the nebula and the fourth attack ship emerged, listing and flickering with power failure. "Hide from that, bitches," Mikey muttered quietly.

"Multiple new contacts in the nebula," Sternson called out in alarm.

"Pegasus' lifeboats away," added Friedman. "Her power output's gone critical, sir..."

"Swing back around, but give her a wide berth," said Mikey. "Prepare to take on the survivors, and track down those shuttles." The undamaged Jem'hadar ship began to cruise toward the Tigerfish as it began beaming evacuees aboard. Schroding herded it back toward the Pegasus with a burst from the cannons as the remaining survivors came aboard.

"IKS Karam arriving in 45 seconds," Friedman said with relief in his voice.

Sternson called, "I have a fix on the shuttles... and I believe a cloaked ship is inbound."

"Good," answered Mikey, "let's pick up the shuttle crews and-" He was interrupted by the blinding glare of the Pegasus' detonation, engulfing the four Jem'hadar ships which had cleared the nebula. After a long moment, Mikey swallowed in a dry throat and finished softly, "Brief fleet command. Pick up the shuttle crews, and lets get these people home."

"Prepare to take on the survivors, and track down those shuttles."

Liam quickly made his way from the small engineering section covering the rear of both decks of the Tigerfish towards the hanger-like front section of the lower deck, ready to transport the escape pods' survivors. In the forward corner of the large hanger Nurse Elbram was arranging beds and replicating hyposprays, ready for any injured. Hewer scanned the vicinity for the nearest pods to the Pegasus and selected three of them.

"Lowering shields for emergency transport," said Liam over the comms, "Energizing."

Twelve shaking and frightened crewmen appeared in a flickering of light, and one collapsed with serious burns. Liam turned to Elbram and shouted, "Some help over here!" As she came running over with a hypospray to stop him fitting, some other crew members helped Liam carry the injured man to the beds, before he ran back to the console. Suddenly out of the large windows the crew members saw a huge flash, and immediately the ship manoeuvred away from it and accelerated towards empty space. A few seconds later the ship shook violently, and Liam was forced to grab on to the nearest bulkhead to stop himself being flung to the floor. After a very brief and dazed silence, Liam began beaming the survivors aboard again. But just as the next lot of crewmen were beamed aboard, and the shields were lowered, more transporter beams appeared than were expected, and many were purple.

Liam instinctively ran to the nearest weapons locker, and more quickly than his hands had ever moved before he punched in his command authorisation code to open it. He grabbed a phaser and slid others to uninjured crewmen. Eight Jem'Hadar appeared and stood menacingly with weapons drawn.

Intruder alert

Without warning the Jem'Hadar fired their weapons towards any living thing, clearly they intended to take no prisoners. They scattered and hid behind bulkheads and consoles, firing wildly towards the Starfleet crew. Almost as suddenly as they appeared, the Jem'Hadar disappeared in a blue flickering of light. Liam stood up to check they were gone, before moving his hand towards his comm badge, but a voice came over the comms before he had chance to speak.

"Good work Lieutanant, I see Commander Hewer has taught you a few of our old tricks," spoke Mikey, "Though I'm not sure about your choosing of my quarters..."

"My apologies sir, it was the first on the list. I hope they don't make a mess."

Liam instructed Friedman to continue the transports, before making his way up a ramp to the upper deck and meeting Mikey outside a door, where they could hear muffled shouting.

"After you, Lieutenant."

Liam gave an awkward look to the captain before opening the captain's quarters. A large Jem'Hadar ran head first towards the two men and Liam took a step back, but it wasn't required. The Jem'Hadar collided with a forcefield and was thrown back, head first, and landed in a heap between the other Jem'Hadar.

"Decloak! Full impulse, bearing 045! full power to the weapons array, and fire at will! The Klingon's seem to be in trouble. I hope their bone-idle heads will thank us for this, although i doubt it!" D'tyra ordered, standing clear of her seat as the Lacron shimmered into view. Immediately after emerging from its cloak, the port and starboard disruptor arrays lit up, spewing a firestorm of disruptor bolts toward the advancing Jem'hadar vessels.

The first was not even able to get a shot off before she submit to the Lacron's barrage, splitting apart almost down the centre as the blasts ripped into the hull. The second let loose a trio of polaron beam shots, none of which found there mark. She too was destroyed by a contingent of disruptor shots striking the port nacelle, before finally being hit by a stray disruptor beam of the IKV Karam.

"three more fighters closing to stern, port side," the Tactical officer reported.

"Evasive starboard, reduce to 3/4 impulse. Rake them with the aft weapons array," She ordered, hunched over the helm officer's back. The Lacron made a tantalizingly tight pirouette-like manoeuvre, before powering forward again and into a short zig-zag pattern. The Fighters were struggling to stay with her, even more so now that they were dodging a stream of disrupter bolts.

"helm...Half axis rotation to port, then pull into a sharp descent on my mark....." She said as the ship rocked to the first few successful hits. The helmsman had positioned them on a heading straight toward the Karam.

"Now!" She ordered.

The Romulan cruiser lurched into its rotation, before diving deep downward and away from the Karam. At the moment the Lacron was clear, the Klingon vessel let loose its stream of weapons, splitting two of the fighters apart. The third however, continued onward and sliced into the port wing of the Karam, ripping clear its nacelle and leaving at least 30 klingons venting into the nebula gases. Streaks of lightning like plasma rippled across the Tritanium hull, slowly making the windows across the ship grow dark.

"Right....I've had enough of this. Set intercept course for that space station! Notify all ships of our intentions to attack," She said. the bridge stopped with horror, some mouths fell agape.

"Commander? I dont think..."

"Do it." She said, and the centurion complied. she sat back into her chair and tensed herself slightly.

"Engage. fire at will."

USS Daystrom, crewmen quarters, somewhere on a lower deck.

resting after a day of hard work on maintaining systems, installing more tertiary bypasses, scrubbing plasma conduits, and so on, Petty officer Kaserp Nijhoff was resting on his bunk, his cabin mate one bunk above him.

"Sleep well, Kasper," the cabin mate said.

"nah not yet, I want to kee up to date with fleet operations, so I am going over the internal messages once more before I'll go sleeping."

Turning on the audio transmissions in his head, he overheard the latest events in the fleet: The discovery of a nebula nearby, final activation of all sections of the station, some minor problems on the Paladin and other ships, and a new message, just appearing as he was about to close his feed.

The fleetboard essage was as following: The USS pegasus has just been lost from our fleet complement after a brief battle with Jem'Hadar ships in the Porthos nebula. Klingon escortes were unable to assist. the only witness aside from the nearby shuttles of the pegasus was the Tigerfish, an auxiliary craft of the USS Daystrom. Death toll: The USS Pegasus Captain, Another 40 crewmembers, as well as 5 crewmembers serving on a shuttle in process of scanning the nebula. Casualties on enemy side: unknown, estimated to be around 50. Further information will follow in about three days, when the remaining forces in the Porthos nebula re-enter taskforce controlled territory.

"Korik, my fellow Vulcan, did you know any persons on board USS pegasus?"

"Some, by their faces."

"They are gone now, they have been killed in a dominion surprise attack."

"What do you think that happened?"

"More than they tell us. I await further information tomorrow. I believe we will encounter some very interesting times, but do not know wether that will be interesting for the good or the bad side."

{Plot Time: Before the brew-haha in the nebula}

Captain Lewis strode onto his bridge. "It doesn't seem as if the Commodore has much for us to do." he informed his crew.

"Well thats disappointind." responded Lorcan with his perfect irreverance. Matt hid a smile, "Yes, yes it is...we're supposed to be gathering intelligence of some sort and "exploring." How we're gonna do that when they don't tell us what they want, I really don't know. The Pegasus is setting out to examine a nebula about 5 days away. We're gonna ride shotgun with them for a little. I think we oughta take a little look around the system while they poke around in the nebula."
"All this has happened before --"
"But it doesn't have to happen again. Not if we make up our minds to change. Take a different path. Right here, right now."

USS Tigerfish

"Really young lady, I'm fine" McDuff told the young nurse, Lt. Elbram, for the third time.

"That isn't your call to make Master Chief." Nurse Elbram replied. "One thing I've learned about Starfleet Officers is that they will ALWAYS underplay an injury."

"Ah" McDuff replied with a tight grin, "therein lies the misunderstanding. I'm a non commissioned officer, therefore, your rule doesn't apply to me."

"It seems your right, Master Chief." She said, closing her tricorder. "About being fine that is. You non coms can be even worse than that starship Captains sometimes."

"Well, someone's got to get the work done." He replied, getting to his feet.

With a grin, she excused herself, "They just recovered the crew from your other shuttlecraft. I've got to go and check them out. If you'll excuse me?"

"Of course." McDuff replied, "And thank you."

With a nod, she moved off as a blue skinned Andorian approached. Noticing the four pips on his collar, McDuff snapped to attention as announced "Master Chief Donald McDuff, sir."

With a nod and a twitch of his antennae the blue skinned Captain replied, "At ease, Master Chief. I'm Captain W'Trisk of the Daystrom. I'd like to ask you a few questions about what happed."

With a bit of an uncomfortable look, McDuff replied "Of course, sir. But, you really should talk to Lieutenant Laren. She was commanding the shuttle."

"I fully intend to, Master Chief." Captain W'Trisk replied. "I'm fully aware of and have a deep respect for military courtesy. However, at the moment I need answers, and you as the more experienced officer can likely give me what I need a bit more quickly. What happened out there?"

"Well Captain," McDuff began "When we reached the nebula, we left the Klingons at station keeping at the battle coordinates. They were supposed to be waiting for us, and to provide cover fire if we needed to get out of here in a hurry. Captain Berkley had me tweak the Pegasus' sensors a bit, so we could get a better range in that soup. But once we entered, we realized we just weren't going to get the distance that we needed. So, the first officer, Mr. Niles had me modify the sensors on both shuttles so we could cut the mission time down. Three days out from Pegasus, we stumbled across what appeared to be some kind of station, and about six Jem'Hadar bugs. We got out of Dodge and let the Pegasus know what we found. We all were supposed to meet up with the Klingons at the rendezvous point, and head back to base with our scans, but by the time Laren and I cleared the nebula, Pegasus had already come under fire, and there was no sign of the Klingon ship. I guess you already know the rest."

With a somber nod, Captain W'Trisk replied "I'm afraid so. I am sorry for the loss of the Pegasus. She was a fine ship."

Also nodding, McDuff replied "That she was. She was a pretty smooth running little boat. Sir, may I ask how many survivors?"

A shadow of sorrow crept across the Captain's face, "33 all together. From our transporters, the lifeboats, and both shuttlecrews."

McDuff hung his head for a moment, "Damn."

W'Trisk asked, "Can you hazard a guess as to the function of that station in the nebula?"

Looking up again, and scratching his beard, McDuff replied, "Well sir, we didn't really get close enough to get a very good look, but I'd wager it's some sort of mining facility. I saw something mighty similar back in my days aboard the Enterprise."

"Really?" W'Trisk asked, "You served with Captain Picard? On the E-D or the E-E?"

"Actually, it was the E-B, under Captain Harriman. We were charting some gaseous anomalies in a nebula of a similar class to that one, when we found what we later identified as a Gorn mining station." McDuff explained "It was set up and configured quite a bit like that station was back there. The big buzzard collector-like protrusions were actually quite similar."

"Hmm" The Andorian Captain's antennae bowed in thought. "I wonder if we could use this somehow."

"Can I ask you to help me with something?" Mikey asked CPO McDuff.

"Of course, sir."

"Go with Lt. Schroding - flood my quarters with anesthezine. When the Jemmies are out, hit 'em with heavy stuns just to be safe, and remove their Ketrocel White apparatuses."

"Put them all down, sir?" McDuff asked, still all attention.

Mikey's antennae cocked to the side. "Crisis management, that's all," he said. "We're only a few days out. They'll survive that long, and they'll be much more manageable."

"Aye, sir." McDuff went to find Schroding as Mikey headed for the cockpit.

"Get me the Romulan ship," he ordered brusquely as he entered.

"Yes, sir," answered Friedman, "and Captain Krem of the IKS Karam wants to know who ordered him around."

Mikey was in no mood for posturing. "Tell him it was Captain W'trisk of the USS Daystrom... and if that's not clear enough, I'll carve it on his hide for his next of kin to see, and maybe his successor will learn to remain at his post."

Friedman eyed the captain dubiously. "Aye, sir. I have the Lacron on audio."

"Commander D'tyra - this is Captain W'trisk of the USS Daystrom. Please stand down."

Static hissed for a moment before D'tyra's reply came back. "Stand down?!" she growled. "Shall we just allow attacks on our vessels to go on?"

"No, commander, of course not," Mikey answered, trying desperately to remain calm toward the Romulan. "However, the Karam is crippled and I have a boatload of evacuees and prisoners. Even if I could assist, how do we stack up against whatever's in that nebula?"

"Your point, captain?" D'tyra asked impatiently.

"That we should return, analyze our intel, create a plan, and implement it with sufficient force."

"Thank you for your counsel, captain. Lacron out."

Mikey sighed. "Raise the Daystrom. Tell her we're on our way back with survivors and prisoners, and have her meet us," he called wearily.

In the main conference room of the Starbase the Captains of all the fleet ships along with various other high ranking officers were assembled.

Looking worse for wear with bruises and cuts visible on his green skin the Klingon captain of the Karen stood slightly backwards. What had happened to the failure of a captain to put him in such a state was not known by the most people. No one had cared enough to find out.

Admiral Grayling had left the captain in command of his ship despite vehement protests from numerous other officers, especially the former XO of the Pegasus. He had deemed it to much of a risk to fleet unity to remove the popular Captain and son of a famous Dominion war captain from duty.

On the large table in the middle of the room a graphic display of the local space was shown. The station was surrounded by all but three of the ships and a few fighters' patrols. In the Porthos Nebula the map now showed the position of the enemy mining facility.

After reviewing the data collected by the scouts Grayling had called a meeting of the senior officers to decide the next course of action. Their next move could decide the outcome of not just this mission, but the fate of the entire quadrant.

USS Paladin - Captain's Ready Room

Captain Fletcher looked across the desk at his Chief of Security, his fingers steepled, with a speculative look in his eyes.

"What have you learned about Dr. Turod's murder, Lieutenant?" the Captain asked.

Mark presented a PADD for the Captain's review. "Sir," Mark began "The autopsy revealed that Dr. Turod was overpowered, and his neck snapped between his third and fourth vertebra. There were signs of a struggle, indicated by the defensive wounds on the Doctor's hands and forearms, as well as contusions on his face and body. However, it was while scanning the Doctors hands that we made a key discovery."

"That being what?" the Captain prompted.

"Dr. Turod has an artificial right hand sir." Mark informed him. "It is similar in design to one of our bio-synthetic limbs, but is completely artificial." Raising his eyebrow in a very Vulcan-like manner, Mark continued "It would not leave a fingerprint or DNA on any surface that he touched with it."

"Lieutenant" Captain Fletcher asked very carefully "Are you implying that Dr. Turod may have killed Ensign Collins?"

From a small case, Mark withdrew a phaser. "Sir, he was one of less than a dozen people on board with the necessary computer skills to circumvent our computer security protocols. We also discovered this hidden behind the replicator panel in Dr. Turod's quarters. I have confirmed that it is Ensign Collins missing phaser, and have confirmed that it does indeed have the Doctor's DNA on it, and a fingerprint from his left hand as well."

Nodding, the Captain said "Excellent work. Is there anything else?"

With a shake of his head Mark said "No sir. Unfortunately, Dr. Turod never saw fit to record a personal log, and his computer only contained information on some current research that he was doing. I can only provide proof that he had the means, the opportunity, and the evidence found in his room. I cannot provide a motive for you at this time."

"Lieutenant, you have done well, but I need more." The Captain said. "Damnit. You've found one murderer, but now there is a second one on the loose. This ship may be going into immediate combat action. We've already lost one ship and another is nearly crippled. I cannot have an unsolved murder distracting this crew from our mission." Rising to his feet and looking Mark square in the eye he continued, "Lieutenant Mark, you will use any and all means necessary to apprehend this person. Are we clear?"

"Crystal clear, Captain." Mark responded.

"Very well then." The Captain said, "Dismissed."

Snapping to attention, Mark then executed an about face and exited the ready room. As he crossed the bridge to the turbolift, he nodded to Lt. Miller, who was on duty at the tactical station. As he approached the turbolift doors opened, and the Paladin's First Officer, Commander Rochey began to emerge, but stopped when he saw Mark.

"Lietuenant," Rochey said "Perfect timing. Let's take a ride. I need to talk with you."

Nodding, Mark replied, "Very good, Sir." Then he entered the turbolift with the big Tholian.

"What is our destination, Commander?" Mark asked.

"Computer, deck 10." Rochey instructed the turbolift, and then turned his head in a very disconcertingly buglike way to look directly at the young officer. "I have to ask you something, Lieutenant. I read your file, and saw that you are an expert in Vulcan martial arts. Your particular discipline tends to focus on the breaking of limbs quite a bit, as well as traditional unarmed fighting techniques. It would seem that you are one of a handful of people on this ship capable of snapping Doctor Turod's neck, wouldn't it?"

"Computer, halt" Mark ordered the turbolift. Looking back into the Tholian Commanders eyes unblinkingly, he then replied, "Are you accusing me of something, Sir?"

Unruffled Rochey said "Not yet. But it's an interesting question, wouldn't you say?"

"Very well Sir, to answer your question, then yes, I do have the necessary training to have done so, if I could have caught the target off guard. However, if the target was fighting and resisting me, I would have found breaking a Vulcan's neck to be both illogical and impractical." Mark replied.

Rochey then asked him "So then, how would you have done it then, Lieutenant, and why?"

Taking a deep breath to calm himself, Mark explained, "Commander, as my last physical, the Doctor rated my physical strength and stamina to be about 50% greater than an average human of similar physical size and conditioning, due to growing up on Vulcan. That would have made Doctor Turod literally twice as strong as I am. It is not logical therefore, to close to a grappling distance where my speed advantage would be negated. I would therefore use strikes against vulnerable areas, such as the throat, if killing my opponent were my objective. As I just informed the Captain, the autopsy revealed that Dr. Turod was indeed fighting back against his assailant. A human just doesn't have the physical strength to break a Vulcan's neck, while he is fighting. Only another Vulcan or an Andorian has that kind of sheer physical strength. You likely do as well sir. Or a ." Mark stopped in midsentence, stunned.
"What is it Lieutenant?" Rochey asked.

"I know who killed Dr. Turod, Commander." Mark replied.

USS Valkyrie - Marine Officers Bunk Room

James laied awake on his cot starring at the celing. He was suppossed to be sleeping, but couldn't seem to do it. After the attack on the Pegasus, the Marines were all instantly on edge, anxious for the battle they sensed was comming. James had schedualed some extra training sessions for his platoon to keep them occupied, and channel their anxiety into something productive.

He rolled over and was just about asleep when his combadge chirped. He didn't respond at first, not used to that particular device. But he caught it the next time.

"Lieutenant Corrin here." he said sleepily.

"Lieutenant, Captain Kane, i'd like you to meet me in Holodeck one." Came his commandeers voice.

"Yes, sir" James replied sitting up.

He quickly dressed in his uniform and stepped out into the cooridore and walked up to the Turbo lift. The doors swung open and James found himself face-to-face with the Security Chief Lieutenant Cix. James felt a shiver start down his spine but he suppressed it and stepped into the turbolift. Cix tried to smile, but it came out more as a smirk. The two stood silently with a lot of tension in the room as the doors closed.

"Where are you going?" Cix suddenly asked.

"huh? what?" James asked looking at him.

"You need to tell the computer where your going." Cix explained like James was a morron.

"Oh, ya right, Holodeck 1." James replied.

The Turbo lift began mooving again, but the two stood silently waiting for their stops. When they did finally stop and Cix left, James couldn't help but think he was glad he wasn't one of the Special ops guys. Eversince they entered the Gamma Quadrant Cix seemed to spend a lot of time with them, even joining in on their training excercises from time to time.

Cix was driven from James's head however when the turbo lift opeaned again for him. James made his way along the halls to the Holodeck and stepped inside. The Holodeck was offline, and Captain Kane was standing in the middle looking over a PADD.

"Hello. As you were" The Captain said as James snapped to attention. "I understand you've schedualed extra training sessions for your platoon over the past week, may I ask why?"

"No particular reason sir, I just wanted to give them something to do while we wait for our Orders." James replied.

"No dicipline issues?" Kane asked again.

"No, sir." James answered.

"Good, now that we're out here alone, we cannot have a breakdown in military decipline. We must be ready to go at a moments notice. Understood?" The Captain replied.

"Understood." James replied.

"Good, dismissed." Kane said returning to his padd.

In the main briefing room on the alliance space station the ship captains and fleet commanders were holding an emergency meeting.

All capital ships had been recalled from their scouting and patrolling duty leaving only secondary craft to maintain the patrol duties.

Admiral Grayling was leaning over the center table looking at the display map; standing to his right was the ranking Romulan officer who was holding a whispered conversation with the Admiral as Captain Lewis listened in.

Over by the door Captains Mikey, Tusk and D'Tyra were discussing the recent loss of the Pegasus and what coarse of action needed to be taken. Tusk was heatedly debating for a full force assault and capture of the enemy station while D'Tyra was adamant in leaving them be and gathering as much information as possible before making any form of assault.

"We must attack now! For the honour of the alliance!" Captain Grathess yelled out from where he was standing with another Klingon officer.

Looking up from where he was talking to Admiral Grayling Captain Mer'an, commander of the Romulan contingent steering down the Klingon across the room.

"You would have us fly blindly into enemy space with out preparation?" He asked with contempt.

"Are you afraid of this rebel group of changelings? Did we not beat the Dominion proper once before?" The Klingon spat back.

"I'm not sure where you where during the battle of Cardassia but those of us who where there witnessed the cost of going up against even a fraction of the Dominion" Mer'an replied calmly.

"Are you a co-" Grathless spat back before being interrupted by Admiral Grayling.

"Stop it; lets not forget what we're hearing for" Grayling spoke over the agitated Klingon.

"What would you have us do then? Sit here patrolling our little bit of space while the enemy grows stronger everyday?" Grathess spat back.

"We're to send out a recon party headed by the Lacron, once we get their report back on the enemy capability we'll strike back and capture the enemy station" Grayling stated as he proceeded to lay out the battleplan to the assembled officers.

Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

USS Daystrom, briefing room, 16:40

Petty officer Nijhoff was brieing his subordinates about the upcoming action.

"First off, you don't get to hear everything. you are only told what you need to know. We are here to do our job. We do not need to know what the enemy's strength is, or what its projections are. If you wish, go look it up, you may or may not find it, then you know. We do not need to know how long this battle mission might last. What we do need to know is that we are here to keep the ship going. When shit hits the fan, we keepthe fan going. Period. now, onto what you may know. Within a few days, we will try to capture intelligence on a Dominion station from the splinter group we are supposed to neutralize. USS Daystrom is part of the attack group. Along with them are the Valkyrie and the Paladin. Any questions?"

"Are there any special conditions or orders when we could get under attack?"

"We are to speed up installing tertiary bypasses and medkits will be resupplied, as well as the installation of seatbelts on seats when deemed neccesary. The bridge has top priority in this case."

'Further questions?"

No questions vcame forth.

"Very well then,"Kasper continued. "The meeting is finished. Remember,
Theirs not to make reply,
Theirs not to reason why,
Theirs but to do and die."

USS Ravage - Sinclair's Quarters

Sinclair checked his appearance again in his mirror, for the third time. He still couldn't get used to seeing himself in the red. He'd been wearing his gold uniform for most of his Starfleet career. He hadn't seen himself in a red one since he was a wet behind the ears Ensign, working as a Conn Officer. Now, he had just been given a field promotion to full Commander and assigned as the Ravage's First Officer. When Captain Lewis offered him the position, he found himself speechless. It's wasn't that he didn't feel qualified or up to it, it was just that he and the Captain didn't really SEE each other that often. Half of the time, he praised and kidded with his engineers that their department was so squared away, the Captain forgot that they were down there at all. So now, he was a Command Officer. His family would be quite proud about that. He was now officially, a leader of men, as his grandfather says. Jordan didn't care to think about how nervous that made him. Every time he thought about the fact that if he made a wrong decision that somebody else may have to pay the price for him, it made him slightly nauseous. Checking the chronometer on his wall, he saw that the official staff meeting would begin in twenty minutes. It was very important to him that he set a good example, and earn the respect of his fellow officers, instead of having it shoved down everyone's throats. Once more, he tugged his tunic and jacket straight, left his quarters, and headed for the turbolift.

USS Ravage - Main Conference Room

Captain Lewis stood before his senior officers, with his hands clasped behind his back.

"Ladies and Gentlemen" he began, "Before this briefing officially begins, I have a couple of announcements to make. First, many of you know that our XO fell ill. Out of respect of his desire for privacy, I will not disclose the nature of his illness, except to say that he WILL make a full recovery. However, the nature of his particular affliction precludes him at the moment from serving on a Starship in a potential battlezone. Therefore, I have granted his request for a transfer to our station, where he will continue to serve in a command capacity. However, as he so colorfully put it, he'll be in the rear with the gear."

A light chuckle echoed from around the room. Every person present who knows him could just imagine the XO saying that, in his unique way. The Captain paused to take a sip of his coffee, and take a deep breath before continuing.

"I'm sure it's no surprise to anyone here that I have decided that our Chief Engineer, Lieutenant Commander Sinclair, would make the best candidate for First Officer at this time, and as of yesterday, at 0800 hours, Mr. Sinclair's new position became official, and as a consequence of his new position, he has officially been promoted to the rank of Commander, with all the rights and responsibilities, thereof."

The rest of the senior staff gave a polite round of applause and murmured congratulations. Sinclair nodded politely, unable to keep the smile from his face. Captain Lewis noticed and briefly smiled as well, remembering when HE first became the First Officer of a Starship.
The Captain then cleared his throat, in his well known request for silence.

"As a consequence of Mr. Sinclair's promotion, we found ourselves in need of a new Chief Engineer. Before I go any further, I want to say, for the record that each and every Engineering officer on this ship has my confidence and respect. Unfortunately, none have the experience or training to assume the position of Chief Engineer. It is with great pleasure that I announce that Master Chief Petty Officer Donnie McDuff, of the late USS Pegasus, has accepted the position of Ravage's Chief Engineer."

The old Master Chief stood up from where he had been unobtrusively sitting between Lt. Uzume and Cmdr. Patel and nodded, before resuming his seat.

"Now," the Captain began "Onto the briefing "

USS Ravage - Main Bridge

As the meeting let out, most of the officers resumed their posts on the bridge. Sinclair stepped down to the command deck, and looked at his new chair, to the right of Captain Lewis's.

"Go ahead. Try it out." The Captain said with a grin.

"You know, Sir, I have sat in both it and your chair before." Sinclair replied.

"Trust me." Lewis replied, "It's going to feel VERY different now, Commander."

Gingerly, the new XO sat in his chair, directly beside the Captain. After situating himself for a moment, he said with a shameless smile, "You know, Sir, your right. It really DOES feel different."

"Told you so, Number One." The Captain said, returning the officers smile.

the women are mighty fine.
They look like Phyllis Diller,
and walk like Frankenstein.

Seth ducked down as the Jem'Hadar Guard turned to look in his direction. He waited a few minutes, then peeked back up to see if he was still there. He wasn't. He paused for a second, then heard him. He knew where he was and knew he didn't need to worry about him, for now.

He quickly jogged over to the door, and quickly hacked his way past the security and opeaned the doors. As they opeaned the Jem' Hadar appeared exactly where Cix'd planned he would, and before the soldier could raise his gun Seth shot and killed him.

Seth then pushed on his ear to activate his communicator. "This is slytheringterror, the fat-pack is open."

Seth then went into the room and pulled out a data storage device. He plugged it into the computer and innitiated a download. Then he turned to find another one of his team entering the room, covering the entrance.

When the download compleated the two quickly and silently made it back to their boarding craft where the rest of the team was waiting.

"Slitheringterror to fleet, we've got it, open up." Seth said as their ship departed.

The last thing he saw was the Paladin opeaning up with the Phaselance right into the unsuspecting station. Then the holodeck program ended.

"Good Job guys," the Unit leader said to everyone. "Man Seth, I thought that Jemmie was going to get you, how'd you know when he was going to show up?"

"Oh, I've had a lot of practice." Seth answered thinking about the various missions he'd gone on in the past. "Doesn't really matter if their Romulan, Klingon, Cardassian, Tholian, Human, or Jem'Hadar, they always seem to walk at the same pace on guard duty."

this caused the other guy to laugh. "Ya, I guess so. See you around."

"Ya see you." Seth answered.

He liked hanging out with the Black Ops Unit. They didn't cower away from him like the rest of Starfleet or even the other Marines. With them his skills fit, and his looks ampliphied his intimadation factor, something rather important among the Black Ops. This was the third training session they'd invited him on, and he was beginning to enjoy it.

This scared him though. He was afraid he'd get pulled back in. He swore to himself that after everything he'd done, he wouldn't do that again, and now he found himself following that path again. He wanted to just stop, refuse to join them again, but then he'd return to his security post and be surrounded by the people that were to afraid of him to even look at him, to even awknowledge his presence, so he'd seek out the missions again.

It was a vicious cycle, and he had to keep control, or this time it could ruin him.
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

"Mr. Grr'lek....would you care to join me in the shuttlebay? I believe I have something to address to the crew," D'Tyra said in passing lieutenant. He looked rather puzzled, but followed on anyway. He had no idea what the Commander was talking about, as he had received no notification of a crew address but he guessed it was just a general little speech about security or something such. Curious, he stepped over the threshold and into the shuttlebay.

The entire crew stood in line in front of one of the shuttles. The one that had been destroyed had been removed, it was practically useless. The warp coils had been fused and the hull was beyond repair in several locations. It was decided that the resources be reprocessed for some other purpose. Now two remained in the hold, arranged neatly behind the crew. D'Tyra directed Grr'Lek to stand to the side of the group, and she positioned herself in front of them. Placing a strange item on her tunic, she prepared to speak.

"Crewmen....centurions, officers and enlisted men alike. We stand on a new frontier. The Romulan Empire stands at a cross roads. Our past enemies, the Federation and the Klingons; now stand as our allies in battle and in other arenas. Once, we hid away from the other worlds, secluded in our borders. No more. We stand in the light. We stand with our allies and we stand against our enemies."

"The Empire is in trouble, all here know that. Praetor Tal'Aura is facing opposition on all sides. The Remans, enemies of the state, they all run rampant through the cities of Romulus. Even here, aboard one of the premier warships of the Praetor, there is a traitor and saboteur among us. We stand on the verge of collapse, economically and militarily. After Shinzon," She tensed somewhat at the name. "began his Reman fed rebellion, Which was ended with the help of the Federation," She glanced at Grr'lek, smiling. "we were left on the edge of annihilation. I cannot do much about that at home. But we can do something here."

"The Dominion dissidents are near to us now. Preparing their forces. Well....we are not going to let that happen. It is time they have the sword of fury thrust down their scaly throats. The sword of Justice: The federation; The sword of honour: The Klingons...and the Sword of the Praetor. We shall be that sword! We shall not falter, and we shall not fall. I promise you today....That we will bring glory to the Praetor and to the empire!" She finished with an apex. The Crew, completely out of character let out a cheer in pride. Grr'Lek merely smiled at the display. It showed a side of the Romulans he had never seen. and was glad to have witnessed.
