How about using the compartmentalization we discussed to be able to vent small subsections of each deck? Most invaders would need to either breathe or remain within a particular range of atmospheric pressure.

yeah that would work.

So the answer to a complex system that might malfunction is to add another complex system to it?

I think my answer to boarding parties is simplest - forcefields for containment, and then for the kill either the removal of the atmosphere or beamage into space ;)

Exactly what I was talking about.

Which is the first complex system to which you refer? I don't think venting a section is terribly complex.

I meant this :
And with the Defence turrets, makes good sense. Wasn't sure. Maybe you could have a advanced power management so if there was an issue with one malfunctioning, you could just cut power to that sections defence grid.

It'd deal with the stupid ones, but I think blast doors would be better. They'd be able to contain intruders wearing suits and transporter scramblers.

And there'd be no way of technobabbling a way through one, and they stay up when the power goes down.

:::the boarding party comes to a halt before the blast door:::

Badguy one to team: "Molecular phase dissapators, now."
:::team pushes button on belt and walks threw blast door:::

Tecnobabble will always find a way.

Expanded medical facilites and shuttle bays to take on wounded from other ships in the fleet. A medical vessel may not always be around.

Will we have that kind of available room? I was under the impression that what we have is a no frill battleship, designed for combat, not really evacuation and humanitarian missions. That would fall to the Ravage (Nebula Class) and Daystrom (Akira Class).

How much extra space is available? A larger or seperate treatment room isn't going to take up that much room, I'm referring to a facility allowing them to treat and stabilize battlefield injuries. Not restore them to full health, rather like a Battalion Aid Station.

Edit: what's 5% of a GCS's volume? As a side note, this is the kind of thing that happens in a CVBG or Gator Navy group. The carriers and amphibs have expanded sickbays.
