The whole Star Trek: Voyager series is a flaw.

I've been going through the ST Encyclopedia lately, and I've noticed something odd.

Janeway departed DS9 on her way to the Badlands before she got swept away with her ship.
She decides to go the long way back to Earth.
Why doesn't she take a shorter route back to the Gamma Quadrant, go through the Bajoran Wormhole, and end up back at DS9? It's a shorter route!
Bear in mind that the Dominion War hadn't started yet, and the Wormhole was open for business.

Do they know where it is in relation to where they are? They know its in the GQ but do they know how to get to it from the DQ?
What does defeat mean to you?

Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

Did they know how large the Dominion was at that point? Did they know exactly where in the GQ it was located? They could very well have ended up flying past it completely.

And besides, even if they weren't at war by then, the Feds already knew the Dominion was unfriendly. Walking up all alone and asking them would they be nice enough to help would be a very bad move for Janeway.

They knew where the wormhole was. That's how Sisko and Dax figured out they were in the Gamma Quadrant in "Emissary" - by identifying the nearest star system. I agree however, that as Teaos pointed out in the other thread that Voyager left after the Dominion was identified as a threat, trying to take a shortcut through their space would have been excessively stupid even by Janeway's standards.

But cutting through Borg space? That's still suicidal...

Can't be THAT suicidal. They DID survive after all. Granted, only through plot power, but they made it

They probably thought they could avoid them.

The Dominion. At least there's the chance of surrender if you start getting betaen.

Agreed. Though, I'd only surrender if I was being "beaten". :P
