Theres a paragraph in the novel Farseer but I don't have it out at the moment. There was basically a large central throne, in which the Navigator sat. He was connected via a wide array of tubes, cables etc so he literally felt the ship around him. he didn't look at displays, he Saw into space. He had several drips attatched to provide water, nourishment and some muscle relaxants etc.

Hmm. In all the other fluff, the central throne on the bridge is the captain's. On large naval vessels or AdMech arks, the captain is similarly hardwired into the ship. There isn't much fluff concerning private vessels/rogue traders in that detail - there's Tobias Maxilla from the Eisenhorn trilogy, and the trader Omnis Pecuniam from Grey Knights, but the bridges a/o navigators aren't detailed (if even present.)

My gut says, take the ball and run. If you need a mood, a safe bet with WH40k is "always think steampunk."

This was set on a private freighter, admittedly a modified one.

The Space Wolf novels actually have the Navigator encased in an armoured pod while on duty.

Just introduce my characters as part of the gift coming with the ship. Bodyguards for the new owner. "Here's Enrick, he'll take orders from you. Here's Buck, he takes his orders from Enrick."

What about the rest of us? Do we know exactly what we've been retained for (working for an inexperienced, spoiled kid,) or will the details be announced to us?

Lets go with yes, you know. Though if your PC is averse to it, keep in mind that even working for a spoiled brat, they stand a good chance of becoming stinking rich.

You're here because some girl's rich ass daddy is going to pay you a shit-ton of money to do what you'd do in the Imperial Guard for free.

a) I know why I'm here fiscally, and b) the IG doesn't do what I do. That would be a combo of the Munitorum, Administratum, Officio Assassinorum, and Ordo Sicaris.
