What was the New Orleans classification again? Frigate, right?

I don't think it was ever given. It sure was a little thing compared to explorer-type starships, though.

That sounds about right for it's size and role.

So it's a frigate one generation out of date. I can think of ALOT of uses for that class. It's still a perfectly good ship.

There's nothing wrong with the class, she's just not Front Line material anymore.

Put them in the rear, guarding the gear.

Supply lines, get old crews out of the way, or just because you need a ship for some new captain.

Agreed... Not a bad first ship to be posted to as captain...

Even some LIGHT exploration missions, you know.......take reading from this anomaly or that.

The ship can perform background duties excellently. Stuff like guarding convoys, patroling quiet systems and parts of the border, etc.

Exactly how I always envisioned the class - picket duty, guarding rear echelons/supply lines, keeping a presence in conquered territories, anti-piracy, etc.

In other words, a very boring service life......but one that SHOULD last a long time.

Maybe boring but it's still needed and its better then sending the SotA ships to do the job.

Boring? Yes. Essential to maintaining the UFP? Hell yes.

The boring jobs are always the important ones.
