So ... what next?
"All this has happened before --"
"But it doesn't have to happen again. Not if we make up our minds to change. Take a different path. Right here, right now."

Re: These are the voyages?
Alright, the winner seems to be Jumping Ahead and continuing. So, the Buran sacrifices herself in order to save the folks down on the planet. Now, how far do we want to skip ahead, who lives, and what type of ship? Do we want to do something a little like Daystrom Beta/Gamma, we could find ourselves stationed to a new Daedalus class vessel that is the flagship of a task group, or perhaps even a new NX class vessel that is a member of a task group.
I kind of see the war breaking down like this, as the Daedalus class is introduced: It is still easier and cheaper to produce the NX class, but the Daedalus are more powerful/have longer range/have some sort of advancement, so each Daedalus produced is made the flagship of a task force supported by NX and Intrepids and others. Perhaps we could write something with this breakdown:
Fleet Structure: Operated/commanded out of a Starbase; includes a number of Daedalus class vessels, with a larger number of NX and a larger number of Intrepid's/smaller ships. If this makes it easier, think of a WWII Carrier task force as: 2 Carriers, 4 battleships, 6 battle cruisers, 8 cruisers, 16 destroyers etc.
Task Force: Each centered around 1 or 2 Daedalus class vessels, supported by NX/Intrepids
Task Groups: Under Command of the Task Force Leader on the Daedalus, centered around an NX class supported by Intrepids.
Does this make sense? The crew on whatever ship we're not on could consist of NPCs.

Re: These are the voyages?
IDK if starbases would even exist yet. Would a pre-UFP Earth be able to field task forces like that?

Re: These are the voyages?
Well, the numbers would just be examples -- granted some of this I'm basing on the "Starfleet: Year 1" novel -- the idea that there are space stations at least, if not the starbases we're used to. I'm sure there'd be some sort of command and control point. If production were increased drastically due to the war, we know there are a number of pre-NX starshps around. I suppose it's possible especially if someone like the Andorians or Vulcans provide at least material capacity if not actual ships and crews.Mikey wrote:IDK if starbases would even exist yet. I'm for getting a Daedalus class. And maybe, we could start introducing the refit NX class as well, the models with the added secondary hull.
Of course, then we'd have to modify the standard weapons. Start phasing out the "phase weapons" and start using lasers.
Also.......can we PLEASE get a cool ship name? If you recall, the Chakat came up with Buran.
How about the Dauntless? Or Nautaless? Or the....ahem...Defiant?

Re: These are the voyages?
I thought Reliant came up with "Buran."
Nautilus doesn't sound too impressive when it's not a water-borne ship. I still like mythological names... Cerberus, Orcus, something like that.

Well if we are getting a Daedalus it makes sense to use greek mythological names at least for the start. Zeus, Haephestus, Hades, Apollo etc.
Re: These are the voyages?
Kronos....Olympis...Perseus
Maybe we should start a seperate thread poll.

I agree with Mikey on that.
No trees were killed in transmission of this message. However, some electrons were mildly inconvenienced.
Re: These are the voyages?
We can do nearly anything with the name considering the time period.

Re: These are the voyages?
Ok, I've locked everything from the Buran. I'm opening a character roster/sign up thread.
We have a crowded roster with mostly inactive players, so lets see whose still on board, and open up the possiblity to new players or characters.

Re: These are the voyages?
Are we doing just one per player, or can we have a rarely-seen secondary char? Since we can assume that the Andorians were Earth's allies in the war, I've an idea to have an ancestor of Mikey's (from the Daystrom RP) to show up once in a while.
