The way I understood it was that this movie was actually supposed to be an adaptation of Richard Kluger's book 'The Sheriff of Nottingham'. the story is told from the perspective and thus paints a picture of the sheriff as a average guy trying to hold his own in a kinda crappy job while raising a family. He has to deal with King John at some point who forces him to make a painful decision. Robin Hood comes into play as a two bit jerk. I'd offer more details on that part, but its been a few years since I read the book.

Anyway, what was supposed to be an adaptation of this book evolved into what just hit the screen - for better or worse.

Here's a link to it on amazon, in case you're interested:

Aye, I've heard myself that this was originaly going to be seeing the whole thing from the side of the Sheriff, but as time went on it got changed back into the more traditional form of the story. Can't go around making the audience actually think, now, can we?

I'm sorry to say, a spin like that likely wouldn't have gone over THAT well with your average movie goer. But they DID portray Robin as an ass in one of the all time great movies.

I love our local cinema. The back seats can have the armrests lifted. easy access for just such moments.

There hasn't been a Batman movie made that I haven't had to see a second time in order to actually see the film.

Well, except for the feature-length Adam West one. Not particularly sexy.
