Nah, we have plenty of people here who do that thinking they're useful in some way. If you start doing it then you'll end up making their lives even more meaningless then they already are.

I also agree that there'd be a lot of nothing the Romulans could do, providing they ever found out. How they'd find out is another story.

How would they find out, I ask.

There have to be files somewhere. I'm guessing their spies might turn something up.

The Romulans COULD have allied themselves with the genetically enhanced whales, I suppose.

Why? The whole thing was organised by Sisko and Garak, and I can't see either of them, Garak in particular, leaving incriminating evidence lying around.

And Sisko deleted HIS only account of what happened.

Also, why would the Romulans be looking in the first place?

Short of Garak or Sisko admitting what happened (which I don't see happening), there's no way at all for them to find out.

Good point....they'd have to suspect something before looking for that evidence. That's not really something they'd just stumble across.

How did Garak get rid of the forger? He must have been pretty subtle about it, the guy was already on Odo's radar after he stabbed Quark. If he had an 'accident', wouldn't Odo get suspicious?

Sisko was given the go ahead by SFHQ. Anyone think that they wouldn't keep a record of the actions of one of their most important officers?

Just what I was thinking as I came back to read the newer posts on this thread. Still, as others have said the Romulans would need to be actively looking for such a thing and one would expect these records would be kept sealed on Earth, the most fortified planet in the UFP. The remaining possibility is some nefarious insider selling salacious Starfleet secrets...

I believe Garak killed him, but not sure.

Sorry, mistyped my original post.

What I meant was, how did Garak kill and dispose of the forger. Would Odo not have been curious if he turned up dead somewhere on the station after the incident at Quarks?

Also, its not inconcievable that the Dominion would find out why the Romulans joined the war - the Dominion did have excellent intelligent sources. If they got a look at the evidence fabricated by Garak, they would realise the meeting never happened. The Dominion would then no doubt go looking for the proof in order to disrupt the alliance between the Romulans and the Federation. Even after the war ended, the Dominion might want to expose the deal as an act of revenge.
