Future notebook hardware

i've become used to using the tapping on track pads. I find it a lot more convenient than using the button, especially if I am using my left hand. I had an...incident with my left side when I was younger which makes it less flexible than my right, meaning I struggle to do more than one thing at once with it. Tracking and tapping a button at the same time is for some reason challenging to do.

I use a track pad all the time at home. I can't stand tapping as it always happens when you are trying to move the mouse over a large distance with multiple swipes. When I'm using a track pad I use only one hand, with my thumb holding down the button as required. I never use two hands on the pad/button.

Yeah, I personally like the new Mac ones, no need to have tapping on. I don't even think they have the option. The whole pad is a button.

They do have the option but they I agree they're great.

My laptop only uses tapping when you double tap in pretty fast succession, so I rarely press something i didn't want to.

Boot of the MacOS disk that came with the machine. Get to the point of being able to see the menu. Select Disk Utility from the tools menu. Try repair permissions. Once finished reboot as normal and see if it fixes the problem.

This isn't so much "Future Notebook Hardware" as "current notebook question" but I didn't want to create a new thread. I've noticed with my laptop, when using the trackpad I will somehow accidentally click and drag links and photos. I can drag tabs out of the toolbar and they open in a new window. Just now I began dragging a "view posts" link. I've also managed to catch photos and such and drag them. Is this a peculiarity of Firefox? And how is it possible since as far as I can tell, I do not have a click and drag capacity with one finger. Also, this only happens accidentally. I never manage to reproduce the effect on purpose.

Sounds like you have 'tapping' enabled. Tapping is producing a click by tapping anywhere on the track pad. Personally, it's the first thing I turn off, if I want to click I can use the buttons provided.

No it's not that. I have tapping enabled and have tapped to click before. This happens when I don't tap, and the link/photo/what-have-you is physically dragged across the page.

I bet it is. Try turning tapping off and I bet the problem goes away with it.

Because you have to achieve click and hold, a sort of tap that is equivalent to holding down the mouse button while dragging.
