Yeah, I remember that. the one with the little dots and the superlaser in the center instead of a hemisphere! And what do they do instead? Some stupid band number in ROTJ and Hayden in place of Shaw.

Gimme. A. Break.

And let's not forget the ring they added to the Death Star explosion. Pointless...........................

Hey man, every good space explosion has to have a fiery ring along one arbitrary axis to make it look awesome.

Not in 1977 they didn't. The Praxis explosion has a lot to answer for.

I can kinda forgive Praxis. Some odd effect had to propagate fast enough to hit the Excelsior at FTL. Alderaan? Just a planet blowing up. No need for exotic anything there.

Interesting point.

Technically, the B5 explosions where the ship simply splits apart and the parts of the hull splinter is probably the most realistic.

But, i honestly prefer the fire like explosions.

Weird...

Theres was a nice scene in B5 where 2 techs were watching a dogfight outside the station. They could spot whenever it was an Earth ship or one of the enemy by the colour of the fire when they exploded, due to the different atmospheres inside the ship.

Aye, there was some nice details in B5's battles.

Really, though, ships shouldn't explode at all. They should juts become drifting, blazing hulks with all their exterior weapons and engines blown off, and with most of its atmosphere gone. The crew would probably be more at risk from suffocating from lack of oxygen than from the ship detonating.

Wouldn't they blow up if it is from, say the warp core detonating?
No trees were killed in transmission of this message. However, some electrons were mildly inconvenienced.

The warp core shouldn't detonate in the first place. Having such a volitile thing aboard is stupid.

By using the non-explosive one used during the TOS era.
