Re: This is gonna **** a lot of people off...
I've never been into comics, but don't comics do this almost routinely now? Restart the franchise all over again and just start fresh with a different take on things? In fact don't some comic franchises run more than one version simultaneously?
Seems weird to me, but I guess maybe we should be getting used to it.

I'm giving up on trek if they go that rout, hell they might make the shatnerverse canon next...
What does defeat mean to you?
Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

So they're going for the whole 'Dallas' Bobby Ewing getting out of the shower, it was all just a dream scenario? What's that spinning sound I hear coming for Gene Roddenberry's grave? I thought it was going to be another 'f*cked up timeline but our heroes put it right' storyline.
So is this for sure? Thanks for this one Rochey:

Sort of hard to criticize something you haven't seen. Sort of like people who don't vote, but still complain about the govt.Teaos wrote:I might not even bother spending money on this piece of sh*t movie.

Well, I'm not sure how to go with this. Time travel sucks, hard, and I'll be p*ssed if they got that route. My expectations for this movie dropped a peg.

Re: This is gonna **** a lot of people off...
I was disgusted by the time travel aspect of the story. Time travel AGAIN!? However this re-writing of Trek history is very intriguing to me.
If the "Spock's Brain" episode can be removed, Star Trek V can be stripped away from the fabric of the Trek universe, the majority of seasons 1 and 2 of TNG, most of Voyager, and remove the evil Vulcans, the Temporal Cold War, the Xindi story arc, Enterprise and Berman and Braga, then the re-write might be a good thing. Casual fans won't care about continuity, but if this movie is excellent, this could revive Star Trek and make it something cool.
I was very against this movie. Going back to the early days of Kirk and Spock, and using time travel to get there was very unappealing. However if this movie is all that it is claimed to be, and it re-injects life and excitement into Star Trek once more, then of course I will hail this movie as the greatest thing since the Wrath of Khan.
On a personal note, if I hear the word "quantum" used as some technobabble solution in this movie, I may giggle uncontrollably.

I gotta say, if I hear technobabble in this film I will be supremely p*ssed.

Supposedly, they're avoiding it like the plague.Rochey wrote:I gotta say, if I hear technobabble in this film I will be supremely p*ssed.
Do we really need to know what particle is making the time travel possible? We'll just assume chronitons, but Joe Public will just get "time travel".

What would be really good would be something like this:
"I'm using chron-"
"I DONT GIVE A DAMN JUST DO IT, SPOCK!"

Graham - yes. Comics reset and follow parallel timelines quite often.
As to the premise, I actually am hopeful that it can be used as a way to reset/do something new with a built-in mechanism to avoid pissing all over continuity.
