He could stand on the bridge waving his wand "Warpious Speedoes". After that you wouldn't even need to try and explain things anymore. He could stand there, looking at the viewscreen. wand pointed forward, and shout " QUANTUMUS". There now, everything explained.

I always thought the aliens replaced the M/AM fuel for faster flight, and then the Equinox would revert to normal fuel when it ran out and needed to summon more.

Possible. What kind of reactor/engine would run on dead trans-dimensional aliens? How many mpc* would it get?

Enough that it would take dozens to get all the way home, IIRC. Hence, the magnitude of the crime Ransom committed was great.

Well, they were said to be giving off some sort of energy I think. And I know Ransom stated that it would take I think 63 more aliens to get home or something. If you could figure out about how far away from home they were I'm sure you could come up with fuel mileage.
