We have of course discussed alternate uses for phasers. The problem with the Raven is that when we saw it, it was unarmed AND hunting Borg.

Does that depend when you're using it? I wouldn't want to be in one during the dominion war, but they seem alright for TOS.
Even in TOS...I don't think they did too well. The Reliant only did half as good as it did against the Enterprise because of Kahn's brilliance.

Can they get a Darwin award since they already passed on their genes?

i'd least like to captain a miranda during the TNG/DS9 era, it must be a p*nis thing but seeing all the other fleet swoosh past in their long broad excelsiors, galaxies, akiras etc, i'd just feel limp and old.......probably wouldn't even be able to get my shield up.....

Probably a Miranda during the Dominion war. I like being alive too much to be part of "operation shield the hero ships".

In terms of peacetime the Frankenstein fleet are the obvious ones (you know when I invented that term I was soooooo hoping it would catch on throughout Trek fandom), but it's a bit of a given, really. Too obvious.

Of actual proper ships, I think I would least like the Oberth. Small, poorly protected - taken out in one hit by a fricken bird of prey for Pete's sake! I can't imagine the armament is up to much. Silly design what with no connection between the saucer and engineering hull. Never did like the thing.

The only good I have to say about it is that I still remember how excited I was the first time I saw it. You young ones might not be able to appreciate it, but at the time the Oberth was like the 4th Starship design we had ever seen in Trek. It was a thrilling thing indeed when she appeared.

And then promptly disappeared. :P

Actually, I saw ST III in the theater; it's the first 'Trek film I remember seeing.

I think DITL should make it our mission to spread the name "Frankenstein fleet" across the fandom.

Agreed about the Oberth. Funny thing is, in exchange for the poor design, she doesn't really seem to have scientific apabilities too much ahead of a ship that isn't a dedicated science ship.

But yes, Graham, I remember her first appearance, and that difference in design made it pretty cool when it debuted.
