Re: New forum
I'd be curious to see any "chicken or egg" research on damged Island cells in type-II diabetics. I do know of essential sugar production in the liver - it's one of the main reasons why I need to stay on a daily long-acting (lantus-type) insulin in addition to my mealtime short-acting one, rather than using the insulin pump.
Any word on caffeine studies, Ian? The last creditable one I know of was a Canadian study which showed that over approx. 400mg daily interferes with insulin absorption and stimulates essential glucose production - this seems to jibe with my own experience, but I was wondering if you had heard anything more recent.

Re: New forum
Interesting my boss, Prof Rury Holman, was the first to suggest such a regimen. Here's a useful overview, http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/disp ... ?id=147940 of the AMYLIN / IAPP. Cooper and Clarke both worked in our unit a the time it was discovered. Clarke still does, Cooper was the one the went to the US to form a company. Turner (also in the authors on the original paper) was the head of the unit at that time.Mikey wrote:I'd be curious to see any "chicken or egg" research on damged Island cells in type-II diabetics. I've not seem anything specific here, sorry.Any word on caffeine studies, Ian? Re: New forum
If I went of the long-acting (I use levemir) even in favor of a constantly-updated short-acting bolus, as with the pump, my morning sugars would be in the 160-180 mg/dL range. If you're unfamiliar with the scale, "normal' is considered 80-120 mg/dL 4 hours after a meal.

Re: New forum
I noticed that as well. I wonder if that was an unintentional side-effect of the new design, or whether Ian implemented some kind of anti double-post software.stitch626 wrote:Hey, somthing else I've noticed with the new forum, no multi-posts.

I may be on vacation, but I'm still able to terrorize the forum, hindered only by these crazy French keyboards.
